Hi,
My aging mother-in-law wants to switch from Cable to direcTV because the cable fees are killing her.
She does not have a HDTV and is happy with just the basic service plus local channels. If we install a dual-LNB or triple-LNB dish for her, with a standard def receiver, will she continue to receive signal after DirecTV switches to the new satellites?
We're in the Long Beach, CA area, so L.A.'s change-over should be coming up soon.
I don't want to go through the hassle of installing a system, only to have to change it in 6 months.

Thank you for your time.

Standard definition will remain at 101 for years to come, even after the Feb. 17, 2009, HD OTA transition. You might, however, need a Phase III dish, if the locals are at 119.

Thank you for your reply.
Is there an easy way to find out what bird the local channels are on?
And I'm assuming Phase III is the current ovel dish / triple LNB ?

Somewhere on the DirecTV website there is a page that shows what dish is required for locals.
