View Full Version : Excuse to get out of contract?

I am very upset to hear that D* is dropping WPXW, channel 66 in the DC area, effective 2/28. It has served as the DC broadcast affiliate for the Baltimore Orioles, and I fear that cable is now my only option in order to receive that channel (and therefore those games). Since my zip falls within the O's team territory, I wouldn't qualify to get the games via MLB Extra Innings. What are the odds that I could use this disappointment as an excuse to get out of my 1-year commitment to D*? Do I have any other options?

Can't you just return your equipment and be done with the contract?

When they were doling out rebates last year I do recall the fine print saying to get out of the commitment you return the equipment. But I'm not sure if that applies in your situation. can't hurt to call and find out.

If none of your regular RSNs carry Orioles games, you should be able to watch them on one of the RSN Alternate channels.

I was really ticked off when I found out that Orioles games were blacked out on EI (I'm a Yankee fan, and they play the O's 19 times during the season) even though my local RSN (Fox Sports South) only carried Braves games. After asking around, though, I learned that I could watch them after all.

I think all you have to do is return the equipment and they will let you out of the contract with no penalty fee. Call them up and talk to them, while you may not get your station back you may get some free stuff to stay with them :)

What's wrong with Comcast Mid Atlantic? They have the broadcast rights for the Orioles. You should qualify to receive both Comcast Mid Atlantic for the Orioles/Wizards/Capitals and MASN for the Nationals

The problem with Comcast Mid Atlantic is the fact that this is not available on a Sattlelite signal. It has remained a wired operation to cable companies (this was HTS: Home Team Sports) in the Baltimore area. Unless Comcast changes their way to provide the channel or some new federal regulation comes soon enough, D* and E* are out of luck on gettin CSN: Mid Atlantic.

I have no idea about MASN.

I would still get 80 or so games on Comcast SportsNet this year on D* (but I guess those games are moving to MASN over time...which actually puts me in a bind because Comcast doesn't carry MASN while they do carry WPXW); however, the ~80 other MASN (formerly O's TV) produced games air on local affiliates WJZ/WNUV in Baltimore and WPXW in Washington.

Not true. The only Comcast that falls under that loophole is Comcast Philadelphia. Comcast Mid Atlantic has always been on DirecTV and Dishnetwork, replacing HTS. On DirecTV it is on 629.

And MASN is carried on 626. Currently for Nationals games only but most likely once the O's switch over they will be on that channel as well.

Or if DC blows it with MLB, MASN will be solely the Orioles station. :crying_sa
