I never have had DISH service. Have had D* since year one - still w. original box. Got BEV (Canadian system) 4 years ago because they were the only system w. any HD. (Of course there wasn't much being broadcast at that time and plasmas (which we had just bot) were only available by mail order.
While BEV provides more HD than anyone (at least til DISH added VOOM channels), I am now considering getting DISH - altho DISH lacks in HD offerings. DISH doesn't carry many of the premium HD channels (just HBO and SHO) and, like D*, has no intention of carrying any PBS.
I haven't upgraded BEV to their DVR box (they use the DISH made 942). I would have to keep cable to get Starz HD and the local sports HD and PBS. I could keep BEV and upgrade to their DVR and get all the HD (East and West ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS AND PBS). Also get WB and UPN HD which even cable doesn't carry here.
So, I guess my decision comes down to price. What is being offerred to new customers, AND when?
In the meantime we do have a Comcast HD DVR while making up our minds.
