So, I'm upgrading to a DISH 622 DVR in a few weeks and I called today to check on the local channels.
According to the CSR I talked to, I'm getting the DISH 1000 installed. She also told me that I would be getting ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX locals from the LA area (I'm in about 50 miles east of LA and have always received the locals - can't receive OTA signal since we pretty much live in a crater), along with the NY feeds of ABC, NBC and CBS in HD. We've been receiving CBS from NY in HD since upgrading last summer to an HD box but our NY ABC and NBC have always been in SD.
Bottom line - We will be getting west coast ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX in HD, plus east coast ABC, NBC and CBS in HD. 7 channels total.
My question is, does this sound right? I was reading before that some people were having trouble getting local HD channels, so I thought I would throw this out there.
Thanks.....
No, it does not. You will probably keep the NY sd channels, not sure about the NY CBS HD, but E* has not been giving anyone Distant HD nets. It is also possible you may lose the NY CBS HD if they take away your 61.5 dish. All the NY HD channels are on 61.5. LA are all on 129 with the 1000.

it would seem, if you are IN the LA DMA, unless you have waivers, you'd lose the NY feed altogether. Without 61.5 you can't see NY I don't think at all. you don't typically get distant locals if you are IN a working DMA.

Well, I had the installation on saturday, and sure enough, the NY HD CBS, ABC and NBC channels are not there. However, I will get the NY HD CBS back on tuesday when the installer comes back and reconnects my third dish to get the 61.5. I guess he was confused (a confused installer - Who would have guessed  ) and didn't think I needed it.
So, no NY HD ABC or NBC - Only SD feeds.
Looking thru the guide, it's a bit strange.
I've got local HD feeds of ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX on channels 6306 thru 6309. (these are my local Los Angeles stations.) But then the same exact channels are repeated on 002-00, 004-00, 007-00 and 011-00. It took me a while to figure out that these were also in HD.
As for SD locals, there are two of each of these in two different places, but again, the same exact channels.
And the SD NY feeds (NBC and ABC) are also duplicated.
Am I off in thinking that this is a bad waste of bandwidth? Especially the HD channels which take up so much more.
Anyway, so far I'm loving the convenience of the DVR. I've got some issues with sound and some picture glitches, but I'm off to check other places here to check into these new problems....

No, not really. The software makes the channels available at several different number locations. They are not feeding the same channel through 2 or more bankwidths.
