Hello, I've just purchased a Home theater 5.1 system. It has a digital coaxial and a digital optical input. I'm going to have my dvd player hooked up to the coaxial input. My intention was to hook my satelite receiver up to the Optical Input but my satelite receiver does not have a eather of the outputs (optical nor digital). I have the Dish 311 receiver. Is their any receiver I can get that has this ouput without having to subscribe to a higher priced package. I'm happy with the package I have and do not want to raise my monthly fee. Thank You.

The following old and dicontinued receivers have a DD output: 4000*/4500*, 5000*/5500*, 4900, JVC DSR-100, 7100/7200, 721

Thanks for the replies. I was aware that several of the models above had the Optical Output. My question is. Are any of them comprable to the 311 feature wise. I don't want to up my monthly fee. I just want the same service I have now with a receiver that has the Digital Optical Output. I called Dish Network Customer Service and they said I could get the 501 or 811 for $50 with a 18 month commitment. I'm willing to do that. But they said I couldn't activate them without using the PVR or the HD feature which would raise my monthly fee.

The DP501 will work for you but a DP510 will add the $5.98 DVR fee. Be sure which is being offered. Shop around for a used or remanufactured DP501 you may be able to avoid the 18 month commitment, and be sure you are not getting into a lease agreement with DISH that could cost you $5 per month.

A 501 doesn't have a PVR/DVR fee. Are you sure it was a 501? They do have 522 existing customer upgrades that would have the $5.98 monthly DVR fee added. You could just purchase a 501 or 508 to get Optical and DVR functionality w/o any added monthly cost. Shipping would be a lot from CA, but I'd sell you my 501 that is sitting in the closet. Sign on to your account at Dishnetwork.com and select equipment upgrades. If that lists a 501 or 508, it shouldn't increase your monthly price. But you might enter that limbo land of having just a single receiver leased under a DISH'n It Up promotion - still not crystal clear.

CABill,
Do you still have that 501 sitting in your closet? I'm interested if you are still interested in selling it. I'm in Sacramento. Let me know! Thanks!

I sent two PMs, but I guess $100 was too much to ask for a 501??
