Hi, I have a 501 pvr now and have been running a s vid cable to a Converterx capture and storing programs from DVR to my PC hard drive. takes alot of time and storage sapce, is there a easy way to do this?? newer DVR with USB will it connect to PC? any help at all would be great, Thanks

:welcome_s savedbygrace. Dish does not support, as of now at least, transferring recorded shows from their DVRs to any external peripherals using the USB port. The exception to this is to the Pocketdish, but you may only use the 622 or the 942 for transferring shows to the Pocketdish.
If you want to archive your shows, keep with what you are doing, or do what I do, which is output your receiver to a DVD Recorder and archive in real time. You won't get help about hacking your receiver in this forum, but I hope this answers your question.

you can buy a 7200 cheap and you can pull the hardrive out from time to time or hook up external hot swapable drrive bay and keep it on the out side and then put in to your computere and pull off the shows with a program called dishplayer explorer

... although such use is not supported by this forum. Discussion of transferring of content directly from the hard drives of DVRs is forbidden. (The obvious exception being the DishPlayer product that came out after the forum rule was written.)
