I don't have 622 but curious about dish on demand. Is it free or it's similar to PPV... dish charges per episode? Are there specific shows available on dod or I can basically get any shows.

I have not actually rented a movie with it, but take a look at the 622 review that's available on DBSTalk. It describes it well.

Basically you can pick from a list of available movies and rent them and watch them at anytime you want for 24 hours I believe. If I recall correctly they are about $1.00 higher than PPV, but you can use them on your schedule. One of the down sides is they are all SD not HD.

All depends on what you want to watch and when you want to watch it whether the DOD is worth it for you, its all a personal choice..

Yeah, I personally don't get DOD. Its more expensive, you don't get to keep it on your HD for later viewing (if you get sleepy and go to bed, you've lost it), and the choices are lousy.

The only benefit, and a mild one at that, is that it is instantly available as opposed to PPV which you may have to wait an hour for the new showing to start...

Not my cup of tea...

Anytime I've purchased PPV (which is not often), I set it to record at the next time slot and then watch it when I want to anyway, so what's the purpose of DOD? I don't see any benefit to it at all.

I messed up the acronym.. should be VOD. course that V & D key are sort of close on the keyboard..

Again, as I see it, its all personal preference and depends on whats available. If the VOD has a movie you really want to watch, then you can watch it "right now" Whereas PPV you have to wait for it to begin at the scheduled time you are available.

I personally don't care about VOD, There isn't a movie made that I could not wait a little bit to see. If VOD ever gets a really good library of movies and perhaps tv shows that one could watch on demand, then for me, it might have more interest. But if the catalog is limited to a handful or two of new releases or something, than its not worth it..
