Friends,

I'm leasing 1 501 and 2 301 receivers.

I see that I can upgrade 2 of those to a 522, 510 or 311.

I wouldn't mind having another DVR in the house, so what would you recommend?

I have not had a bit of trouble with any of my current equipment.

Thanks!

What is your current programming? If you get any current DVRs, you will have to pay a DVR fee, unless you have the AEP. That being said, if you want since you are coming from a 3 tuner setup, I would suggest you lease the 625 and return your 501 and one of the 301.

The 625 is dual tuner and will have more recording capacity than the 501.

I have the 120 Channel package.

If I went from 3 receivers to 2 I would lose one of the $5 lease fees, correct?

But I don't see the 625 listed as one I can upgrade to.

Yes, but you will gain $5.98 (might be wrong on this exact price) for the DVR fee, and another $5 if you do not connect the 625 on a phoneline. Let's say the phoneline thing is not a big deal for you, it ends up being the same price (plus or minus $1) for 100+ hours of recording. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that.

Would it be foolish just to upgrade to 2 510s to replace the 301s?

I realize I would lose the ability to record one channel and watch another but re-wiring for the 2-tuner DVRs would be a bit tricky. Would I be sacrificing anything else by just going to the 2 510s?

Where are you checking which receiver is available to you? If you are considering a 510 replacement, I would suggest you change to a 508 instead, because the 508s don't have a PVR fee. If you get 2 510s, that's $12 extra.

I am not sure if the 508s are still available thru Dish, but you may be able to get them thru your local dealer or eBay. Just be careful when you go thru the ebay route.

I am looking at dishnetwork.com's "equipment upgrade" page

It only shows the 522, 510 and 311 as being possible upgrade equipment.

The 522 has been replaced with the 625 and DISH has chosen not to produce a single tuner DVR. Due to the leasing format DISH has chosen they do have returns that they remanufactue and re lease to customers. I would suggest that you keep the 501 and replace the 301s then all tvs would have access to DVRs. If the upgrade comes with installation, which it should let the installer worry about it. I would guess they would replace "their electronics" with a new Dish Pro Plus Twin which would allow them to use a single cable to feed the 522/625.:)
