View Full Version : Dish CD channels duplicated
I noticed that several of the Dish CD channels are playing the exact same music. What is going on?
The ones I noticed as being identical are: Concert Classics & Light Classical, Contemporary Instrumentals & Easy Instrumentals, Non Stop Hip Hop & Urban Beat.
Why are you listening to those channels in the first place?

We like Light Classical at our house for background music.
I guess DISH or Musak just found a cost-cutting measure,
and doesn't think anyone will notice or care.

Hey Lurker you are correct!
One thing I notice is that both 962 (Non Stop Hip Hop) and 973 (Easy Instrumentals) 971 (Concert Classics) all have no song title information.
Let's hope this is a case of the computers that run these channels being down for repair or upgrade, if it lasts for a few days then I think we should bitch and moan at Dish Network as they are ripping us off 3 audio channels!
Concert Classics titles worked the last time I listened to it. They must be having some technical problems.

Because I pay for them? ...and because I use them for background music when the TV is off. I was surfing the vast selection of classical music (2 channels  ) when I noticed that there is actually only one choice. Then out of curiosity, I flipped through the rest and found the other duplicates too.
E* is the best choice to listen to classical music since NPR plays too much crap news and other crap. From 3 to 8PM there is no music on NPR and there are no commercial classical music radio stations around here. I enjoy classical music when I read books at times.

They worked the last time I checked before today. I assume they will get them fixed.

I thought it was the other way around!

I noticed this (duplicate music on two CD channels) but I powered my receiver off and on and that fixed it.
I'll try that in a little bit.

Maybe they are duplicating the channels because they plan on moving the channels around for some reason. Someone said that they do this before moving the channels to another channel location and I figure that they duplicate so that people will see the other channel location before they do away with the original channel location. Didnt they do this when they moved channels around in the past such as WGN, USA, etc. ? Or are they playing the same music on two different song titled channels?

Yep, they're broke or they were the last time I checked.

Here's your answer guys - sorry I forgot to post this last week: (suprised no one else has got this)
In order to improve and enhance the Muzak service, effective Wednesday,
July 3, 2002, Muzak will begin to reformat three of their existing music
channels. They anticipate the reformatting will take 30-90 days to
complete and during this process, Muzak will temporarily simulcast three
existing services on these channels as a temporary replacement. The title
and type of music for the newly formatted channels has not been released
at this time and will be provided as soon as we receive them from Muzak.
Here is a listing of the DISH Network Channel Number, the old format and
the music that will be temporarily simulcast.
DISH Network Channel/Old Format/Simulcasted Format
971/Concert Classics/Light Classical
973/Easy Instrumentals/Contemporary Instrumentals
962/Non Stop Hip-Hop/Urban Beat

I would like to see what the 3 new channels will be. :)
Sometimes Change is good.
Although it should not take them 30 - 90 days to "reformat" the channels.

Why not - look how long it's taken E* to fiddle around with rearranging locals on spot beams, which took D* only overnight to do MORE channels.

All of my cd channels have been missing their music title and artist information since yesterday. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks.

What I would love to see is a dedicated old-time radio drama channel.

I hope they are not going to change the format on 973 as it's so hard to find easy instrumental music. At one time, it was widely available on FM, but it's disappeared entirely in most major markets as rock music took over the entire FM dial above 91.9 MHz. At one time, Sirius and XM was going to have an EZ channel, but by the time they launched, they, too, deleted reference to it to fit in more up-tempo msuic.
OTOH If MUZAK wants to add something, I'd love an easy listening channel formatted as easy listening was back in the 1950s & early '60s (when I worked at an EZ station) -- Mantovani, Gleason, Ray Anthony (dream dancing), Stanley Black, Roger Wms, etc. -- none of the real up-tempo EZ stuff. Music one could really relax to.
