CHICAGO--The Cubs fired manager Don Baylor on Friday and promoted Bruce Kimm from Triple-A Iowa as interim manager, team spokesman Jesse Navarro said.

He said assistant general manager Jim Hendry is being promoted to general manager.

The team planned a news conference in Atlanta at 5 p.m. EDT to discuss the moves, Navarro said.

Well-they finally did it. Baylor is fired today and Bruce Kim is now interim manager. How long before we get Felipe Alou?

With the promotion of Kim, it would seem that it will be his job for the remainder of the season. It seems that by doing this, Andy will give himself plenty of time to find the right replacement...or wait until that guy is free from a contract (Alou).

Good luck, Bruce.

Hey, I didn't realize Kevin Orie was down there, too. And that Zuleta was doing so well.
