I noticed tonight that some of the ATL locals are digital over the satellite--as in widescreen / 5.1 Dolby Digital... Does this mean HD is coming soon? I was watching COPS on Fox5 and noticed it switched automatically from standard to widescreen when going from the commercial to the program.... also noticed the amp was indicating 5.1 sound signal. SWEET! :)

Anybody from Denver or other cities w/HD locals now notice this during the transition? Since DN won't give us a certain answer--maybe we can use this to guess....

Umm the atlanta locals are HD right now.

Assuming you already have a 211/411 or 622 and have a dish 1000 and local channels you have them. Pretty funny that you just noticed...

Yeah... I haven't sat down in front of the TV for a few days. I saw the "changeover" tonight, came online to see if what I was seeing was really true (thought I was dreaming) and I thought for sure that I would see headlines everywhere but I didn't right away.. That's what made me wonder. Can't wait to see Monica Kaufman's hair in high def... (If you live in ATL, you know what I mean!)

:) You won't see Monica's hair in high def.

You have to remember that you are only receiving the new digital broadcasts instead of the analog broadcasts converted to digital.

In other words, the broadcast that you are now receiving in the ATL locals are digital and capable of high def. But everything you get won't be in HD.

WXIA is broadcasting their news in HD. I think they are the only ones although I'm sure more will follow. For most of the ATL locals, you will get HD during prime time shows and major sporting events.

I don't have a new HD receiver yet but am receiving the ATL locals over the air. Should have my 622 soon.

Why type of receiver do you have?
Are the new HD channels showing up in your EPG as 2, 5, 11, and 46?

I have the ViP622--had it installed just a few weeks ago. The HD channels are coming shown just as they were before... 2-00, 5-00, 8-00, etc. etc. (so, basically, yes--they are down in the correct range as opposed to up in the 8000's) Even though it's not true HD for a lot of the stuff, the quality does seem to be a lot better--doesn't seem to have he compression as it did before. I know SNL was in HD last night--very nice!

That's great news. I can't wait to get my 622. The OTA channel quality is outstanding, but it limits you to a single tuner. Having the ATL locals in HD over the SAT will be really nice.

I have heard other people say that their 129 signal is low. I don't have any problems with mine, however I really am not using it yet. Is your 129 signal fairly strong?
