View Full Version : 11.99
I was just looking to see how much the movie packages cost.
I see $11.99 for 3 channels of Max. It's not three channels, it's 2 channels plus a west coast feed.
For 13.99 you get 8 channels of HBO
$11.99 for 8 channels of Starz and 10 channels of Showtime.
What a bunch of crap. Why in the hell do they think 2 channels of Max is worth $11.99 a month? How much does DTV charge for Max? The DTV site usually crashes my browser.
How much do you think Max should be worth? I'd say around a buck or two. Maybe 3 or 4 bucks top.
Nevermind about the price. I found it on this site to be a dollar more for any 3 packages on DTV. It also appears that DTV only has 3 channels of Max too? Doesn't many cable packages have more Max channels in them?

D* also has 3 max channels.
Digital Cable, usually offers the full suite of max
Cinemax
Moremax
Actionmax
Thrillermax
Outermax
5starmax
@Max
Wmax
along with their west coast feed
This package goes for as little as $8/month on cable, main TW systems.

THen you hear bullsh*t from Charlie and others that they can't add more Max channels without raising the price.
It looks like Starz won't have a new movie Sat. night and this will be the first time in a long time that this has happened.

$8/month has been reported by members at DBSForums who have TW service. Since TW owns Max and HBO, they have nothing to lose by putting these channels on their digital cable systems so cheap.
Still if they can do 10 of Showtime they can certainly do 8 of Max IMO.
Oh TW, as in AOL. Nevermind.

You are right, max on DBS just plain sucks. 10 channel of showtime (11 including HD) is the same price as 3 Cinemax channels.
I might have forgot one channel in the list above. 2 years ago when the extra Maxs became available there was talk of an additional one that was a dedicated softcore porn channel, but I havent heard anything about it, so Im assuming TW nixed it.
Encore was supposted to come out with Starz Kids and Starz Comedy but they never happened.

And I hope it doesn't ever happen. Starz family is enough IMO.
I kind of noticed that Starz doesn't appear to show a lot of filthy stuff like the other ones do.

I have both Dish and digital cable. I sub to dish for the 3 greek channels and have digital cable for my regular programming. My cable company WOW (Wideopenwest.com) offers half price on all premium channels for as long as you are a customer. So right now, I'm getting 10 Hbo channels, 16 showtime channels, 11 Max channels, 4 TMC channels, and 8 Starz/Encore channels for only $22. Most places want $15 just for HBO by itself.
Isn't WAM basically Starz Kids?
IMO the Starz/Encore suite is the best deal around (Encore being included in AT150 now). I hope they get their HD offering off the ground, even if it was just a Starz Theater type setup with a few movies a week.

Yep. The only show I watech on WAM was Eerie Indiana, I used to watch it all the time when it first came out on FOX. I think Encore cut it as I havent seen Eerie Indiana in a while.
I certainly agree that the charge for Cinemax is unreasonable on DBS. That's why it's the one premium I don't subscibe to.
Almost anthing that's on CM will eventually be on HBO & vice versa anyway so it's not worth another $8 from me.
The Cinemax offerings on DBS suck! At $11.99 a month for 3 channels, you're paying $4 for each channel. Ridiculous! I wish they would add a couple more Cinemaxs to balance out the per-channel value of the package.

$11.99 is too much for 3 channels, but IMO, 3 Cinemaxs are better than the 10 Showtime channels. The only reason I had Showtime before was to get Stargate SG-1 and now it's moved to Sci-Fi.
I don't subscribe to any of the premium packages now as I can rent DVDs of the movies I want to see for $1 each so I can see them sooner. The only thing I miss out on is The Sopranos.

Various Canadian locals broadcast The Sopranos
(older seasons), and you can get these on ExpressVu
or StarChoice.
