Does Dish network give you any kind of credit on an 811 receiver if you want to upgrade to a 622 receiver and if they don't what to do with the 811 receiver?

If you own the receiver I believe they will give you $25 for sending it back.

I'm keeping mine. I figure it is worth $25 as is.

Why? It's not MPEG4 compatible and therefore can't receive many of the new HD stations.
BTW, I have one and am deciding between waiting to switch to FIOS TV and trading my 811 in for either a 211 or 622.

I actually WATCHED the Charlie Chat in January, and it was my understanding that :
SD>>HD upgrade is $99
811>>HD upgrade is $49
SD or 811>>HD DVR upgrade is $299
921/942>>HD DVR upgrade is $299 (BUT if you wait till after April 1st you can get a $200 rebate)
And in ALL cases, you HAD to send in your old receiver.

There has been so much misinformation/speculation going around that I haven't read very many threads about this since then. JL, can you point me in the direction of the thread (or E* site page) that authoritatively says you don't have to TRADE receivers??
Because, as you know, I usually only listen to what Charlie says and ignore the rest! :)

1) Charlie isn't the most accurate information source on Dish policies. :)
2) I upgraded to the vip211 for $49 (I had the Dish 1000 already). I sent back one 311 for a $25 credit. It would have been the same $25 if I had sent back an 811. They don't DEMAND a trade-in, they offer a credit for a trade-in. Net cost to me for the 211: $24.

I actually WATCHED the Charlie Chat in January, I actually transcripted it (well sumarized it) -- It was confusing at the time if a receiver had to be returned.
Actual user reports can trump the 'predicted deal'. Lets just say that you won't get a worse deal than Charlie mentioned (unless you are the kind that doesn't see the current deal as good).

Is it part of Dish's plans to phase out the 811 receiver and FORCE upgrades? I am considering a 211 installation (being offered for 49 out of pocket), but if I decide not to - I want to know I can receive the bare minimum HD channels (HB, SHO, locals etc) on the 811!
Ahh - and TiVo support - another critical (deal-breaking) issue that I plan to search the forums for. The 811 plays nicely, overall, with my Series 2 TiVo!

It will still do OTA HD, and when was the last time you saw a standalone HD receiver go for that cheap?
My 811 was leased and my 921 is owned. When I called the CSR on February 1 to upgrade to the 622, the CSR told me to send back the 811, since the 921 was owned. It was his suggestion, I told him that I thought that I had to send my 921
back. He emphatically said no. So I sent my 811 back, paid $299 and still have my
921. He said that I could send my 921 back after 4/1 for $200 credit. I have not
decided what to do. May hold on to the 921.

No. In order to get the rebate you must be a current Dishnetwork customer with an HD DVR (921 or 942).

Except it may not be standalone... I can't remember if the 811 needs to be connected to a satellite dish and "see" something before it lets you do OTA.
IF it truly works standalone, then I'd agree... but if it requires a dish on the roof, then that makes it less attractive to someone who just wants OTA.

The 811 itself doesn't have to be activated, but it does require being hooked up to the dish.
I just ordered my 211. I am sending back my oldest receiver. (2900? or 3900?) got it in 1998.
I am keeping the 811. I have 2 HD TV's and they will only let me "upgrade" one right now. So I'll use the 211 downstairs and the 811 in the bedroom. I can still get my HD locals OTA and the other few channels from the 811.
I have to wait 12 months before I can get a second one. Maybe then I'll get the HD DVR.

i wonder how it would work.
My 921 remote stopped working last week, I asked for a new one and Dish sent me a 942 :) So I moved my sat cables to the 942 and split my OTA cable to both. Wierdness has ensued! haha
on the 921 with only OTA, the EPG is stuck at 6:20pm March 8. When changing channels and looking at the "view" display at the top of the screen, it's 6:20pm. But looking at the "info" data which covers the screen, that has the correct time. And so far my OTA timers are still firing at the correct times. I'm afraid to turn it off now haha
wonder what will happen when the time passes the last info the EPG actually know about, hmm

I presently have the 811 with 2 Dishes - one at 61.5; IF I went to the 211 do I have to do away with these present dishes and have them install a NEW 3 "prong" DISH?

well, only sorta correct. it's true you'd get the national programming with that setup, but if/when HD locals arrive, you'd be out of luck, most likely.
In OK, Dish will want you running on a 1000 so you can see 129, which is the likely location of your HD locals once they arrive, if you have any to get. If you don't have locals to get in HD, well then, it doesn't matter if you are getting 61.5 or 129 :)

basically, if you are west of Washington DC, and going north, west of harrisburg PA up to a little east of Buffalo, or down in non Panhandle Florida, you would likely get the 1000 solution. Mostly it depends on where your HD locals would end up as to which set of dishes you'd need. As long as your locals won't be on 61.5, you only need 1 dish.

I'm an hour north of LA. I get my HD locals OTA right now. I have 119, 110 and 148. I dont have 61.5 or 129. Isnt that where all the new HD (voom) channels are?

LA HD locals are on 129, so you'd want to get the 1000 for 110/119/129. Do you really need 148 anymore? If not, just drop that dish.
as to Tuesday night, if you didn't get that, you must not be watching AI :) hence, why I wished you good luck, as you must be 'on' AI haha (one of the top 12's name is bucky, in case you don't watch)
