:( Just installed Dish yesterday. Everything working well on 5 out of 6 tv's Unfortunately, the dish remote will not work with my 15" Magnavox flat screen in my kitchen. I have been through all the codes I could find - in manuals, online and even speaking with Magnavox customer service. I have done numerous code searches - all to no avail. Have come to the conclusion (realization) that I will not be able to use the disch remote with this particular tv. Oh, and I did try the remote on the other tv's and it works fine, so it is not the remote.

Therefore, other than using two remotes (tv's original for on/off and volume) and the dish remote for channel selection - is there a recommended Universal Remote that will work so that I can get down to one remote? Or does anyone else have any recommendations. I have gone through literally at least 50 codes. I am spending way too much time trying to get this to work.

Thanks for any help. I am at a loss as to why it is a problem with only this tv. (It is a fairly new model and the only flat screen one I have.) I just don't have a clue with this one.

Thanks

DISH makes a universal "preprogrammed" remote, they don't guarantee that every code for every remote is stored in their data base. What model DISH receiver do you have connected to the Magnavox so we know if it is UHF or IR?

By any chance did you try the codes listed for Philips? Up until recently I every thing I owned was Philips, when programming my Philips universal remote that came with my Philips home theater system, none of the codes for Philips worked amazingly enough, when I was programming in my Philips 5 Disc CD Changer. As a last resort I looked at the listings for Magnavox, while most of the codes were duplicates, two were not and one of them actually worked.

Who knows maybe the reverse may be true for the Dish remote and your TV. It’s worth a shot anyway. Good Luck!

Yes, I did try all the Phillips codes - alas, no good either. We have the 311 receivers, and the 3.12 IR remotes. Also, I goofed when I said it was flat screen tv. It is a flat panel tv that is also PC ready. Would the fact that it can work as a pc monitor make any difference (my gut feeling is no, but what the heck, worth a shot).

The Magnovox csr did say that there is not guarantee that every tv is remote programable, just figured that there would not be a problem, especially since we also have some really unusual tv models like Daewoo and Inteq and the remotes work with them. Who'd of thunk we would have a problem with a Magnovox!

Oh well. I know that having to use two remotes isn't the worst thing in the world, just looking for a little convenience.

Thanks again.

My Magnavox uses 011, if that helps.

Turn on the tv. Push and hold down the tv mode button on the Dish remote. When all mode lights come on release tv button. Then press the large red power button on the Dish remote. Now press the up arrow until the tv turns off (do this slowly otherwise you can overshoot the code). Then press the search button(#). The tv mode light will blink three times. If this doesn't find the code then there isn't one programed into the remote.
