If I have a sports event, tv show or movie saved on my 622 DVR, can I use a DVD recorder to burn a copy of it? I'm looking to buy a new DVD player, and would consider a DVD recorder if the internal copy protection doesn't preclude me from coping things that I've recorded on the ViP622 DVR. Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks,

You should be able to burn SD from a 622 to a DVD recorder using S and composite connecters (current DVDs are not HD).

I know that the copy protection doesn't let you make illegal copies of a copy protected DVD, but my concern was to make sure that the copy protection technology didn't extend to content received via Dish and initially recorded on the 622 DVR. From your response it sounds as if that's not a concern.

Thanks,

i'd like to get a dvd recorder with component / DD input, even though HD program will be recorded at best 480p, i'd still like to be able to keep the original audio and record proper aspect ratio (so i don't have to zoom when i play back the disc)

I have a Sony DVD Recorder and certain newer events on PPV transmit (and record) the copy protection signal to the DVR. When you try to copy them to DVD, the DVD recorder stops recording saying that you can't record a copy protected program. You can get around it with an external device. I used the SIMA CT-200 with S-Video. Not sure if they are available for Component Video.

I would love to save to DVD the new season of Deadwood (see signature) but, they have that darn copy protection thing running.

Anyone else know how effective the CT-200 (or CT-2) deals with the copy flags?
