The SW21X multiswitch makes it possible for one Dish receiver to have reception from 3 orbital slots when cascaded with a SW21 switch ....Does this work with all Dish receivers?....I tried it with my Dish 6000 receiver and it didn't work....I read where someone said the Sw21X multiswitch only works with newer Dish receivers- the 301 or later. But why would that be?. What in the 301, for example, would allow the SW21X to work with a SW21 to provide for 3 orbital slots while the 6000 can't? Thanks for any info regarding this.

I believe you have to have it on the right side of the SW 21, I cant remember if that is port 1 or port 2, but it works on one port and doesnt on the other. Try the other port and see if it works instead...
I used my sw-21 in my 6000 for a couple of years without problems. Just follow the instructions on the box. Use sw-21X for the 119(input # 1) and 110(input 2), then cascade the sw-21x out put to the line #1 of the sw-21 and the line 2 for the 61.5/148.

what do you mean I need it on the right side of the SW21? Are you saying connect the SW21 first with the 2 satellites and its output goes to the SW21X where I connect the the 3rd satellite input? That's the reverse of diagrams I have seen, but it's worth a try.

Tom,,,I did exactly what you did and the box shows, and it didn't work....I tested the SW21 and the SW21X individually and with any 2 orbital slot combos each switch works, but when I combine the SW21X with the SW21 to get 3 slots, I only get 2 -- the input 1 of the SW21X, and the input 2 of the SW21....The receiver doesn't recognize the input 2 on the SW21X,,,,what do you think?

IIRC the SW-21X mimics a model SW-42, so it has to be used for 119 & 110 only, not the other way around (i.e. using the SW-21 for 119 & 110). Be sure that the output is fed to the first input of the SW-21.
Try checking Alt. in the switch test screen.
