It's back to the grind for Phil Donahue, who will be host of a new prime-time talk show on MSNBC starting July 15.
Donahue, 66, was a nine-time Daytime Emmy Award winner for his syndicated talk show, which aired nationally from 1970 until low ratings forced its cancellation in 1996.
His MSNBC show will be on at 8 p.m. ET on weeknights, pitting him against Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor," and CNN's "Connie Chung Tonight".

Hey John, just noticed your new designation as "John Corn, Super Moderator". Is that anything like "Wille E Cayote, SUper Genius"? :D

Kudos for a Network to sign him up again for another show. Wasn't he one of the Original Talk Show hosts prior to Ricky lake and Jenny Jones?

Uncle Peter,
The main difference between Phil and all those that came after him (He was the first in the 1 hour issue oriented talk show with audience participation) is that he actually dealt with real issues that mattered. It was not the circus side-shows that are prevolent today. You can thank Geraldo Rivera for having these shows degenerate from real issues to "Trasnvestite teen KKK members and the people who love them".
I have never liked Phil's political stance, but I admired the man for hanging in there as long as he did when the masses decided that circus side shows deserved more airtime than real issues.

watched a few minutes of donahue last night...ugh...

Hi, Marlo! Tell Phil to get a haircut. :D
Well at least Phil brings different perspectives to issues. So many of today's news talk shows are carbon copies of each other -- invariably hosts who have an "angry white man" view of the world.
Phil's a good foil.

I don't know if I would call him one of the "Original Talk Show Hosts". He came along in the 70s I believe and there were talk shows well before him. He did originate the current audience participation format but according to legend the audience took over one day and the producers decided to go with it.
So is anyone actually watching Connie Chung in this trio? It seems to me that show is boring as hell
i watch connie when i'm doing the laundry...(can i say that???)

"Phil's a good foil."

Nah, it's not an actual law, Rush, just an
FCC regulation, but it has the force of law. ;)

Ditto to Rking401 and Rush Bimbo :D
The guy rubs me the wrong way ... wasn't he living as a hermit for awhile? LOL
Wish he would just slither away back under the rock he's been hiding under!!
since the first program on monday, nightly viewership has decreased to the point where he is now trailing ms chung...
I couldn't take more than a minute of it.
Poor Phil, I actually felt sorry for him. At
one point, he looked like the proverbial
deer caught in the headlights of an
oncoming 18-wheeler.
He's lost his fire.
jrjcd, could you provide a link to where you got those numbers please?
According to the Punkdoodles Gazette & Times-Journal; That Girl reruns on WWZE outscored Phil's number 4:1 last week
