I have a friend who recently retired and built a winter home on the Gulf coast. He has an arrangement with Direct TV to switch his service from Minnesota to Alabama when he moves down there for several months. He just calls them when he is ready to move and takes his receivers with him. His locals get swtiched, but otherwise he has the same programming. Does anyone know if Dish has a similar plan?

Yes . You can MOVE anytime you need to with Dish. Call up and tell them you have moved to what ever address you are at and then tell them your new service address is. They will switch your locals to what ever new city you are in , if available in the new area, and you will all be set. It costs nothing to move and people do it all the time.

Thanks for the info. Just to be clear, you are saying that I can move for 3-4 months and then move back year after year, without restrictions or fees, correct?

I do not subscribe to locals at my current location, because I get them OTA.. Don't know about availability at my other residence, since it is in a rural area, but I don't know that I would want to subscribe unless I can get HD anyway.

Both providers ask that all the receivers be hooked up to one phone line all the time. But if you move them all and hook them up I doubt that they would object.

As for the on again off again locals you could do it but you would be subject to the downgrade fee every time you drop them.

I dont think there would be a downgrade fee if you all you are changing is the city your locals come form. If not for spot beams you could probably keep one set of locals all the time if they were receivable at the 2nd home.
