I just signed up for the 622 deal and they are forcing me to drop 61.5 for 129. From what I understand, everything on 129 is mirrored on 61.5. Why then are they forcing me to switch? I don't like it because I will lose CBSHD. I live on the east coast, South Carolina.

Thanks,

Time for CSR Roulette. You just got a CSR that has no clue.

Tony's right. But... you also need to insist that you are already a three-SAT user. There are about a half-dozen of E*'s public service stations in the low 9400's, that only "live" at 61.5. You know, the ones that they give us for free, as part of their commitment to a certain level of public service television... I'm sure that you visit them regularly (hint, hint). I'm sure that Dish isn't suggesting that you should be forced to give up those channels that are part of the commitment (hint, hint). Yes.... you need a DPP44 as part of the "upgrade", in order to keep watching those channels (that your family regularly watches). (I look at CBSHD as pretty much a "gift", that could disappear at any moment, based on either FCC rulings, and/or how CBS feels during their next negotiation with E*, so I wouldn't even bring that up.)

Bottom line... you need to get a DPP44, and if you talk to the right folks, you'll get it as part of the upgrade (i.e. it won't cost you a cent).

All, FWIW.

I already have a dpp44. I have a superdish (105, 110, 119) and a separate dish pointing at 61.5.

OK... Sorry about that. Bad assumption on my part. Certainly, if you don't have locals at 129 (like I had), then you absolutely don't need it. All of the VOOM stuff is mirrored on 61.5, so you can simply keep your existing four SATs and be done with it.

ahh yes - another csr that hasnt a clue - unless your hd locals are broadcast on 129 - then you dont need it - of course, the csr wouldnt know that because he/she is just reading from a script in front of them - if you ask a question that isnt on the script, youll get stuck with incorrect information

my suggestion is to call back and navigate through the menu as if you need to reach tech support - those people seem to know what they are doing (for the most part)

please feel free to take part in my dish network csr poll:

No disagreement or hassle - more of a question.

In my area (DC) most Sat locals are available on my Dish 500 dish. However, some of my locals would have required a second dish be installed and if I tuned to those stations a screen would display the fact that I only had to get on the horn to Dish and they'd come install that second dish for free. That screen was changed a bit ago to say that I "soon will be able to view this channel using a single satellite dish.

I thought this was in response to law or a Gov't mandate that required Dish to do this. Is it possible that this enters into the CSR's decision re the OP's install?

I am about to call to "upgrade" my wife's 942 to a 622 and I am hoping that we will get a Dish 1000 dish and receive the Sat Locals in HD as well as all the rest without a second dish for 61.5 or anywhere else.

EDIT: I called Dish and thye included in the Work Order the need for a DPP44 Switch and the Dish 1000 dish. Install in four weeks - May 1st.

I wish Chicago HD locals weren't on 129. Last night during storms I lost local HD several times on both NBC and CBS. In each case I could still get the SD local which is on 110/119 where the signal is much stronger. Meanwhile 61.5 is the strongest of the 4 satellites. For awhile I switched to CBS-HD from NYC via 61.5 until the storm moved east and blocked that. But by then the other satellites were clear again.

Interesting..!

I have a question I live in Northern CA and I have 3 dishes on my roof 1 for 148 (CBSHD), 1 for the 110/119 and 1 for the 61.5

They are installing the 1000 next week with my 622, I also have an 811 receiver, do I need to keep the 3 dishes, I only use the 61.5 for VOOM channels. Would anyone recommend to keep it...! Why..?

I kept 61.5 as it has a much better signals than 129. The DMA here is 130 and the Lil's are received via satellite 119. If DMA ever goes HD Lil they will be from satellite 110. If your locals are currently or soon to change to 129, you may wish to use 129. If they install the 1000 and you want to use 61.5, you will need to keep a dish aimed towards it and cable to the DPP twin in lieu of the lnb for 129. Do you need to keep the dish for 148?

Ok, I just retalked to Dish and they are no longer go to force me onto 129. I'll beable to keep 61.5 and the CBSHD feed. Thanks for all your help :)
