View Full Version : Why not hook up my own stuff?

If I don't want to wait until my install date of May 2nd, what's preventing me from unhooking my 921 and hooking up my 622? The CSR I talked to said I could activate it myself. My 921 was easy for me to hook up. The only thing I would be missing would be the dish 1000. I assume this means I would just be missing some of the hi-def stations. I can live with that for a couple of weeks until my install. Is there any reason I can't do this? What would I be missing (if anything)?

When I ordered my 622 I also upgraded my programming. The CSR said my programming changes (from AT120 - HD Plat.) would not be effective until the installer completed the work order. So I can't see the added SD channels until after the 622 install. He said if I wanted them now, he would have to cancel my order and put it in again, with another order for the programming change. I also need to wait because I'm going from a 6000 and need the upgraded switch to run the 622 off the single coax I have installed.
These items may or may not apply in your situation.

Has anyone managed to get their box activated w/o the installer yet? I keep hearing rumors that dish will refuse to activate w/o the installer there (if so, what are they smoking?)

I can afford to be patient - my 921 was replaced with a 942 yesterday, so i can bask in the lack of 921-suckiness for awhile before I get bored, but I am wondering if when the 622 arrives in a day or two if I have to sit on my hands waiting for the installer to plug in the box exactly the same way I plugged in the 942 last night.

I'm also considering eating the $200 rebate - I have a 721 on my other TV and i'm considering replacing it with the 942 (which raises other issues, since the 942 has no s-video out, and s-video in is the best input for my other tv. time for a new tv :-)

I activated 622 just by calling the 800 number.

Did you get it as part of this rebate thing that started 4/1?

As with so many things, it's prolly going to come down to CSR roulette. I dont think it'll have anything to do with that rebate deal. All the previous 622 installs were "supposed" to be done by installers but people were able to get them activated beforehand.. some easier than others.. by cancelling out their workorder for the install.

I didnt get one of the first ones.. I only got mine about 3 weeks ago. I had hell to pay to get it activated. The first 4 calls were to HD Tech Support (where I thought it would be more conducive.. talking about how I was swapping it for a 211 yada yada that I'd done a self install just a couple weeks earlier after they sent it to me UPS.. and it was just flat no dice every time.. not for a 622 etc etc). Finally I just called a regular CSR and didnt even mention it was a 622.. just said I needed to activate a replacement receiver.

He asked for the receiver numbers and at first had trouble getting it to go through.. I said well maybe it has to do for some reason with an install I dont need.. so if theres one scheduled (which I knew of course there was), cancel it out. He did that, and bingo I was up and running.

And he's prolly out of a job. ;)

Okay, thanks. Took me a half hour to get my 942 installed last night (which i expected to keep for 3 days). Fun. They still have a 3900 on my account which the computer won't let them delete. Gotta love dish.

I received my 622 on 2/17, but I had an install date of 2/25. I hooked it up myself and got it authorized without any problems on the 17th. On the 25th they made some changes to my dish antennas and checked everything out. On my bill they charged me the $299 for the 622 on the 25th.

So... hook it up, and give 'em a call. Select HDTV on the menu to get a decent CSR.
