Is there a trial period for Directv? I want to try directv but don't want to get stuck in a 2 year contract or get stuck with a huge cancellation charge. I plan to get the HD receiver and/or a DVR. Thanks for the help

Don't think so. Why would DirecTV invest in installing a dish, etc. and then let you cancel and walk away without penalty? Go to bestbuy.com and read the terms and conditions.

Best buy had a h20 setup by me that I tried before I got mine installed. With any contract you have 7 days to cancel so you could always do that as well. I would just go to the store and try it out and read people's posts here. If you have questions post them.

Don't know were that is. May be a state thing. But I was told when my system was installed on saturday I had 7 days to cancel (not that I would want to). I was also given 7 days to cancel my gym contract but I think they may only be required to give you 3. I would call direc tv and find out if you can cancel.

What are your concerns about Directv that make you think you won't like them?

You have 3 days to break any written contract in the US.

Thanks for all the help.

durl-I dunno. I just can't feel good about signing a two year contract with anybody when I haven't used their service before. I've had cable forever and all of my family uses Dish so I can't compare. Is the signal/picture better than cable? How do you get your local weather when you want it? The Weather Channel on cable is set for the area and the local stations broadcast weather on separate channels on cable as well. Do these channels get picked up by directv? I don't buy the free installation cost for locking in for two years. You still have to sign the contract if you install the equipment yourself.

The bottom line for me is if I don't like it and want to go back to cable, I'm stuck and have to pay a fee. Could I just buy the equipment and not have to sign a 2yr contract?

Local weather is easy. Just hit the active button on your remote and you can get you 5 day forcast. I fine it much easier then watching the weather channel. I'm not sure if you can just buy the equipment but I know you can get out of the contract but it is like $300 if you have a hd reciever. I would go to best buy and try it out before I buy if I was you. I went to my local best buy and they had a h20 setup so I was able to see if I liked the interface and picture quality. I reciently switched from dish network to direc tv. I switched because I like direc tv's channel line up better. I was going to go to cable for vod but they couldn't get it to work after two visits and a month of waiting so I went to direc tv. Anyway I would look at the channel lineups and see who carrys what you are looking for.

Where did you get this information?

Generally speaking: Title 16 Chapter I of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) prescribes Part 429 rule concerning cooling-off period for sales at home or at certain other locations.

Thanks moonman!

SWEET :hurah: Thanks guys!

By the way, the post above about Title 16 of the CFR is for door to door sales and does not apply to how you would buy/setup Directv if you read the CFR.

I just signed on with DTV in March and they told me I had 30 days to decide if I wanted to stay with them.

Interesting, I'll give them a call. Thanks :) If not looks like it will be coming soon. Did you go through DTV directly or use one of the local retailers?

I guess you've all seen by now that E* has jumped out and initiated a 30 day guarantee program, and they're crowing about being the "only" satellite provider with such a program. Perhaps now you all will understand why D* is so tight-lipped with its upcoming plans and promotions.

What are your concerns about Directv that make you think you won't like them?

Probably picture quality of the non-hd channels.
