Well, after speaking to DTV DVR Tech, my 4th R15 unit is on its way and should arrive by Friday. Refer to the previous post here (http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=559098&postcount=221) if you want to see what led to my getting another R15.

Woke up this morning and found the same problems. I have gone through numerous resets just since yesterday- both hard and soft - forced software downloads, etc. I reset the system last night before going to bed and left it functioning properly, I thought. This morning, on coming out of standby I found that it was behaving as before. Just to say I did, I deleted several programs from the VOD lineup, then did another reset with a forced software download. Weirdly, the programs I had deleted turned up again in the VOD.

I couldn't pause or rewind live TV until after another reset, at which time I could pause or rewind for a few minutes. Soon after, pause and rewind stopped working again. I couldn't record anything. Pressing RECORD on either the remote or the device would simply give me the dreaded 'BOOMP" sound. Caller ID stopped functioning altogether a couple of days ago.

Another weird thing: I tuned to channel 244 (SCIFI), then changed the channel to 520 (STARZ). The video didn't change! That is to say, I was still seeing the programming on SCIFI while on the STARZ channel, yet the Channel Banner indicated I was on STARZ. This happened several times last night...no matter what channel I changed to, I was still seeing SCIFI programming until I performed a reset. :nono:

My Wife and I have decided that we will wait for the new R15 unit and see how it operates for a month or so. If we encounter the same weirdness, there is a distinct possibility that we may become DISH customers.

I would hate to give up on Direct TV. I have been a loyal subscriber since they went into operation sometime in the 90's. I am willing to shrug off the shaky behavior (although I do think the current weirdness warrants a new receiver) and give them a chance to perfect the DVR, but my Wife and Son are fed to the gills with resets, lockups, recording errors, sluggish behavior and other general weirdness.

My Wife puts it like this (and I'm quoting from memory): "We are paying for a service that I can't enjoy because I have to babysit the #$%@^% receiver. Our Direct TV receiver with TIVO in the bedroom seems bulletproof...why can't we get similar performance out of a unit that's supposed to be better? We've owned this unit since December, it's now April and there has been no improvement...in fact, the problems haven't just gotten worse, they've gotten weirder!":hurah:

Just make sure that if you owned the one being replaced you own this one. It is hard to correct but using your old access card and not the one sent with the replacement is a good start. If it does get switched to a leased one, make sure you talk to the "Access Card Department" to switch it to owned. It also helps if you know the date you ordered the first one and the subsequent dates for all the replacements sent out.

It sounds like you are having the worst time out of anyone here. Document exactly what you've done and post it here. It seems D* reads these forums. Something you are doing is different enough from what everyone else is doing to make your experience terrible.
