I have a 921 hi def receiver which I used to replace my old 800 series hi def receiver. I kept my dish 500 setup. four cables come out of the dish 500 unit and I run them into 2 SW21 switches. The dish is pointed at 110 and 119.

I did a little troubleshooting on my dish problem. By elimination I determined that the wires are ok. Thus I suspected it is one of the SW21 switches. I found a similar looking switch from Hughes. It does not say SW21, but it looks identical. 2 in and 1 out. Same labels.

So remember, my problem was that I have a 2 input (2 tuner) receiver. I get both 110 and 119 on input 1. But nothing on input 2.

Now, I substituted that new switch and its different. I still get both 110 and 119 on input 1. On input 2, I get 119 only. There is a strong signal, but its red instead of blue. And the error at the bottom of the screen says something like 'wrong satellite lock, 119'. I do not appear to be getting 110 at all on tuner 2.

When I do the switch check now, the matrix verifies this. Input 1 looks good, getting both satellites. Input 2, (which used to show nothing) now shows one satellite, 119.
The 4 wires coming from the satellite dish were marked long ago. there are 2 marked black, and 2 unmarked. Im using one black and one unmarked on each switch.

So, I suppose one of the 2 short 110 satellite cables could be bad. But I don't understand the 'wrong satellite lock' thing. Anyway, there is now signal coming to input 2. but only half of what it should receive.

Any ideas on how I can proceed? Please email me as well at bbbacres@bresnan.net. Thanks.

You mention "that new switch". By any chance is this a seperator? If so you cannot use a seperator until you replace your LNB's with DishPro Plus LNB's.

The only other option is to run a seperate wire directly all the way from your "legacy" LNB's and switches to the second input.

I just reread your post. No, you can't use Hughes switches! Hughes makes DirecTv gear. The only thing made for DirecTv that would work with Dish Network gear is the LNB itself.

The Seperator I mentioned came shipped with newer model E* dual tuner systems. It allows one wire to be run form the dish to the dual input, however the LNB's on the dish have to be "DPP" (the dish itself can stay, it's just the LNB that has to be changed. FOr 110/119 you would not need any external switch with a DDP Dual LNB, and it even has an input for a 3rd orbital location right in the LNB, so there is no need for external SW-21's.
