Former FEMA Director Michael Brown blasts the
White House, says it's "full of you-know-what."

HDNet World Report, Tuesday, April 11th, 10:00 pm ET / repeat 10 pm PT

In an exclusive interview with HDNet World Report's Greg Dobbs, Former FEMA Director Michael Brown offers, in his own perspective, the most comprehensive explanation so far, of what went wrong and who is truly to blame for the government's disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina.

"If the White House gives anybody the impression that they were taken by surprise, they are full of you-know-what," said Brown. "For anyone to now say, 'Well, we didn't know it could be that bad,' they're lying."

Brown also says that in retrospect, when the administration put limits on the scale of the federal response, he should have told his boss, the Secretary of Homeland Security, "screw you", and he should have told everybody, including the President, "bite me".

Catch these and other inflammatory responses to questions from HDNet's Greg Dobbs for HDNet World Report in a special extra edition at 10PM ET on Tuesday, April 11th, 2006 with a West Coast repeat at 10PM PT.

He called to rent the apartment attached to my house after hurricane Jeanne came through here. In looking back I wish I had put him in rather than the couple I did (ah, hindsite). It would have been interesting to get to know him. I think he was simply sacrificed and the blame dumped on him for everything that went wrong. I still think the largest blame sits on the city and the state though.

Plenty of balme to go around---and it already has---sort of like a hot potato.

I think most of the blame lies on Ray-cyst Nagin. Quit pointing fingers at the state and federal governments and take charge of your city. That's what you agreed to do when you took the oath of office.

Other than that, Dorothy, how did you enjoy the breeze?

Although we've previously discussed Katrina ad continuum, I'm still looking
forward to hearing Brown blast the WH in HI-DEF on my HD DVR on HDNet. :sure:

When did natural disasters become the job of the federal govt?

When the local governments can't hande it and need someone to blame.

When did natural disasters become the job of the federal govt?
When their support is requested by local officials. And the fed's role is to support local incident commanders, not supersede them.

That's what you agreed to do when you took the oath of office.A city can do only so much when confronted with something like Katrina. No city has the resources to deal with such extensive devastation. That's why safety nets exist at the state and national levels.

FEMA can trace its beginnings to the Congressional Act of 1803.
