Hi,

I'm a newbie and was wondering if I should jump into leasing a HD-DVR right now. ...

Costco has the box for about 300 [430+25(tax)-100(rebate)-50(costco cash card)]. However, I know it is going to be a lease and I'll loose the 300 (in addition to the box) whenever I leave DTV. I'm also aware of the two year commitment.

I'm OK with these things, however what I may not be OK with is to shell out another 200 bucks a couple of months later for HR20 (or whatever they call their MPEG4 box).

I'm quite confused as to whether I should go with DTV or TimeWarner (which is the cable company in my area). I'm based in the Los Angeles area (woodland hills).

Hope to get some words of advice from some of you guys.

The HR10-250 will continue to receive all of DirecTV's HD offerings, including LA HD locals, for at least another year. The MPEG4 HD locals only offer the same ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC HD stations they now have on 81, 83, 87, and 89. Those will be kept on line until everyone else gets upgraded to MPEG4. So you will not need an HR20xxx before they take these down.

I seriously doubt you're gonna see, or want, a HR20 in the next couple of months. Just me, maybe Christmas. But I don't know nothing other than the different stories I read.

If that's you're only concern, get the HR10 now. I love mine.
