I have been looking at this forum for a few days now and the members are very helpful. So, I decided to post my request for help here.

A little history (I’ll make it quick). I was an E* subscriber for 8 years (Dish500 setup). In January I bought a plasma HDTV. So, I called E* to upgrade to HD programming. They wanted $800 for the 942. I said no way! It will be obsolete in a few weeks, closed my account (then the price for the 942 went down to $250), and got a 3412 from Comcast.

Now, I purchased a used 921 from someone (no laughing please) for $200, thinking I can activate it then go with the upgrade plan for the 622 making my overall cost $300.

Questions:

1) What setup do I need to get the 921 to work? Will my current 500 work, or do I need the 1000 or Superdish (I am not familiar with the latter 2)?
2) Is it possible to just go straight with the upgrade program?
3) Realizing that the upgrade program has a potential wait of several weeks, can I activate at the lowest tier (continuing to receive HD from cable) until the 622 is operational?

Thanks for any help-

You had over 100 views and noone has chimed in so...........

1) Call Dish to see if they can activate the receiver. The Dish 500 will allow you to pick up the 110 & 119 sats for standard definition programming. You'll need a second dish for HD, or a Dish 1000.

2) I think you have to be a current Dish customer to do the 622 upgrade. Call Dish.

3) You'll need to do #2 first.

I hope this helps.

In central PA you need a second dish pointed at 61.5 (1000 and superdish will not work for HD in your area. I would change the lnb's to either DP or DPP if you have legacy's. E* will activate the 921 but won't give you HD on it, you will have to wait for 622 upgrade for that.

IIRC your 921 also has to be activated with HD programming to get the $99 deal. Since you can't now activate HD on your 921, I think you are sol on the $99. It will cost you $299.
