View Full Version : My 622 is dead after 5 days of use!
I was playing with my ViP 622 with the Closed Caption settings [Menu, 8, 8]. I changed the background color, the border color, and while changing the font, the receiver froze. It rebooted and once it finised the acquiring satellite signal screen progress 5 out of 5, it rebooted again and it will do that indefinitely. I have disconnected it from the power for a while, did a front panel reset but the problem continues, I noticed that it would also reboot if I press any of the buttons on either the front panel or remote. Dish is sending a replacement receiver for $25.

What?? Dish sure does not like customer service. They are charging you for a dead receiver $25.00 is Dish way of saying we do not care.(sorry If about the rant but if I said what I think of this ???? Chargie I will be booted out of this board
They told me that the $25 covered the cost of shipping the replacement and they would give me a label to return the equipment. So it turns out that the $25 is for the FedEx 2nd day shipping both ways. FedEx sucks, it actually takes 3 days to get to Puerto Rico.
Has anybody else played with the closed captions menu options and changed them around? I am thinking that there might be a bug in the software that causes the receiver to save the user settings in an incorrect memory address and this causes the receiver to die. The last setting I changed was the closed caption font.

Were it me, I would call Dish and politely suggest that charging for the UPS expense does not seem fair as Dish has the responsibility to provide you up front with a working machine. In the extreme, would they expect you to pay again if the replacement was dead out of the box?
If that fails, a polite E-mail to CEO@Echostar.com may help.
OK, I sent an email, let's see what happens.

It would be one thing maybe 90 days out or something... but if you haven't even had the receiver 1 week yet, I would fully expect them to pay for the replacement shipping charges.

WHAT???
Your too nice a person. No way no how would I pay a dime for UPS/FED-X or PONY-X. I would be working my way up the food chain of command till I got to Charlie or at least to Kristian. Nicely at first of course buy VERY firmly.
If this true and I have no reason to think other wise, that is really outragous. I'll be mad for you.

I am in the same boat. Sending a reciever back. Have an RMA number. I was not asked to pay for shipping and I would not. If you have only had the receiver for 5 days you should not pay for shipping.

I called Dish the day after my 622 was installed (last Monday) and reported the "frequent reboot and locked audio" problem. The first tech wanted me to try disconnecting the power cord as part of the troubleshooting since I told him I tried everything else that he had mentioned. I agreed and told him I would call back if it rebooted again. A few hours later I called back and the 2nd tech issued an RMA and never once mentioned any kind of charge. The replacement 622 (rev. D) was sent 2nd day air, I received it 2 days later (thank you dish), and inside was a UPS ARS ground tag. I just sent the old receiver back this afternoon.
I can only assume that you were charged since you live outside the continental USA. I'd call back and confirm that this was the only reason, and if the CSR isn't cutting it you could always request a supervisor.

They replaced my purchased (not leased) 8 month old 921 with a refurbed unit back in September with no questions asked, no shipping, no grief (shipped via 2-day UPS too). I'd raise hell with them until you got someone with enough sense to realize that even asking you to pay for shipping is a serious insult!
I know lots of people have bad results from E* CSRs, and I've had some stupid problems with them too in regards to authorizing a reciever and other things but on the other hand I've had them replace a 2+ year old purchased 501, send me replacement remotes, and lots of other stuff without ever charging me for any of it. In fact I was rather shocked to learn when I joined this board that there are available extended warranties on the equipment, I never even considered it before.

One thing you might want to try is holding down the MODE button down for about 5 second. This will reset the 622 to single-user mode, shared-view on, and 480p resolution, afterwards the unit will automatically reboot.
As for the $25.00, you should definetly not have to pay that. Maybe it's something to do with shipping to Puerto Rico, but still for a new receiver under warranty I wouldn't expect to pay anything.
Thank you all for your encouragement on getting it replaced for free. Dish told me that if I were in the "Continental US" and if I also paid some kind of insurance option which is $5 a month, I would get free shipping. But since I am in Puerto Rico it wouldn't matter if I paid the $5 I would still have to pay for shipping, does that sound right?
I don't like to work with the retailers in Puerto Rico, called a few of them up and wanted $1,000 for the ViP-622. Called a retailer in Florida and purchased one for $699 w/Shipping, but it broke. I guess some people here would pay the $1,000 because they don't know where else to get it, not everyone here is capable of speaking english or ordering stuff through ebay or the continental US.
well anyway, Dish responded the e-mail:
Dear Mr. Mendez,
Thank you for bringing your concern to us. We would like to try and assist you with your concern, but we were wondering if you could either provide us with your DISH Network account number or your home phone number so we can pull up your account to provide you with the appropriate resolution.
Thanks,

I wrote back with my phone number, let's see what he does. I also left a voicemail with my number, so far no calls, and I haven't gotten a second e-mail. I'll just have to wait. Hope he can credit the $25 on my Credit Card.
