I am brand new to HDtv's... and am trying to set up my unit to max. the resolution. It asks me to choice between.. 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i... When reading the info that came with my Sharp TV it lists it as 720p
Now for all of you really Sharp guys.. does the unit choose which of these setting I am to use of do I and if so can I set it at 1080i or just to 720p ???
I am totally lost re this... any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Thx Reni

This should be automatic. Your reveiver has a setting that basically asks what is the max resolution you TV will accept and when you set it. It outputs signal accordingly.

Setting the ViP622 & 811 to 1080i produces a sharper picture than 720P on my Sony KDF-E50A10 RPLCD TV which uses 720P panel. Everything is simply downconverted by the TV's internal scaler to 720P. However your results may vary so be sure to try both settings and choose the one with the best image quality.
Another example is that a progressive DVD player (if you have one) that outputs 480P is upconverted to 720P.

Some TVs may give you an option to select the ratio also, and then you have to set them both to 720P or 1080I

This is also true with my LCD. Even though it is a 720P TV, I get the best picture when the input is 1080i.
