I received my R15 back in December. It worked great until the software update in March. Then it began resetting itself up to three or four times an hour. Doesn't matter if you are watching live tv or a recorded program. Sometimes it freezes before a reset, sometimes not.

I tried DTV tech support but after downloading new software ( the one before 10B8 ), formatting the harddrive, etc. it still resets.

You can imagine how nearly impossible it is to watch anything at all so I decided to retire it until a fix is created. That was a few weeks ago. I really didn't want to risk a refurb replacement. Well, not yet anyway.

I haven't noticed any posts regarding the R15 automatically resetting itself like this. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Any chance this new update will help or should I keep waiting?

Thanks for reading!

Have not seen this problem before maybe Earl has more info but it sounds more like a hardware problem with your R15 then it does with the software.

If you ask me I think you maybe seeing a hard drive or overheating problem. Which if this is the case new software will never fix it.

Overheating... now that you bring this up I forgot about watching the fan one day while the unit was on and I noticed the fan wasn't always running. I wasn't sure if it just kicks on when needed or if it was supposed to always be on.

Suppose if it was a bad fan I could replace it myself? Is it a standard pc fan?

The fan doesn't run all the time.
In fact, I have never actuall seen my fans on, but the unit doesn't feel warm.

As for the reboots...
Could be a failing hard drive... could be something else though.. :(

If you can hang on for another week, to try 108B before asking for a replacement.
