LA is not on a spot beam. Like New York, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta & (I think) Denver it will remain full CONUS for Distant Nets subscibers.

Currently I don't have locals. My DMA is in the top 80 and I have spot beams on 2 different transponders. Assuming the merger does NOT go through and E*8 launches in July or August is it likely I'll have locals by the end of the year?

Actually, I wasn't quite right. The LA networks are full CONUS ("DishNets West") but there are a few LA local independents on Spot Beam T3.

The rest of the LA locals are on 148.

I bet that when they get the spots all going they will remove all the channels off the "wing" satellites. Southern CA will have 3 spots on it. They will keep NBC,ABC,CBS,FOX,WB etc on national since they are part of distants, but I bet the rest go to spot beams.

The fact that they have to put in extra dishes everywhere that people want to get the extra locals has to be an annoyance and cost them extra $$ that they probably do not enjoy forking out. Not to mention the fact that the NAB and FCC are after them to have full carry without "wing" satellites.
