I have no trouble recording from the TV2 composite output to dvd and keeping the 16:9 ratio, if I am in single mode. I would like to be able to offload a recorded program to dvd while I watch another program live, but when I switch to dual mode, the TV2 output ratio goes to 4:3. Am I doing something wrong? The manual seems to indicate that TV2 is always SD, but in single mode it is still 16:9. Anyone have any ideas?

While watching TV2, set your format to "Letterbox" (of course, this is set on the remote #2) to keep the 16x9 output. 4x3 shows will have 4 black borders, though, so just set the format to letterbox if you're going to offload an HD or widescreen show.

It's not clear to me if you both are talking about 4:3 letterbox, or Anamorphic?

The manual seems to indicate that TV2 is always SD, but in single mode it is still 16:9Just because it's 16:9, doesn't mean it's not SD (otherwise you wouldn't get a picture).

Are you saying that in dual mode you're getting a horizontally squished 4:3 image without black bars? That anamorphic.

A widescreen TV will play this back fine in 16:9 mode. And, you get the best recording since you're not recording black bars.

If flagged properly, all DVD players will create the top/bottom letterbox if the tv type is 4:3. Probablem is most DVD Recorders do not set the 16:9 flag.

The flags can be corrected on a PC:
