Digital video recorder outfit TiVo (TIVO:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take) said it is launching a digital video recorder that can record two shows at once.More....
Since Dish DVR's have been able to do this for some time I wonder if they will sue TIVO for stealing their patented "idea", assuming that they patented it.

I believe DirecTV DirecTiVos have been doing this since 2001 along with the UltimateTV boxes. Of course, they didn't have dual MPEG2 encoders.
I received an email from TiVo about this unit yesterday. It can "Record from two basic cable channels, or one basic cable and one digital cable channel, at once. Does not support recording from two digital cable or satellite channels at once. Supports recording from cable and satellite sources only; does not support recording from over-the-air antenna." It has a built-in ethernet port, so no longer requires USB-ethernet adapter for broadband access instead of phone line.
Expect to see it in retailers early in May for $99 after rebate. You can also order it from TiVo online for $254, which includes one year TiVo service.

If it had dual HD tuners I would buy it in a heartbeat and trade in my 8300HD for a CableCard. Don't understand why it can't have atleast two digital tuners, with my system 25% of analog converted to digital with 3 channels being converted every Monday, this thing would be practically useless by the beginning of the summer.
