Samsung recently introduced the SIR-TS160, an advanced, all-in-one set top box solution for consumers seeking HDTV capable equipment.
Based on Samsung's SIR-T150 ATSC receiver, this latest model offers reception of over-the-air digital broadcasts (ATSC), analog broadcasts (NTSC) and digital satellite programming from DirecTV. According to Samsung, the SIR-TS160 is also the first consumer set-top box to employ the industry standard DVI (digital video interface) with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) implementation.
Consistent with the all-in-one theme, the SIR-TS160 offers selectable outputs - including 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i - to optimize performance by matching any digital television monitor's native resolution, whether LCD, plasma, DLP or CRT based. In addition, the SIR-TS160 simultaneously outputs 480i, allowing connection to an analog TV or standard VCR.
The SIR-TS160 will be available this month for a suggested price of $699.
