View Full Version : What Diplexers/Switches do I really need?

So we decided to return to Dish after about 3 years.

So were getting a ViP622 installed on Monday, but I'm trying to figure out if I need to fish additional wires.

Basically end state is the following. I believe I'm getting a Dish 1000. I want to install a OTA antenna to get local HD (and regular SD local.) I'd like to utilize the distribute out on the receiver to the existing splitter in the basement. Lastly they only ran 1 RG-6 to the place where the receiver is.

So I think these are the right answers...

If I just wanted Satellite, I'd just need the 1 wire to come into the house and a DP44 multi-switch (or something like that) and the diplexer included to split the signal at the receiver.

If I want to add the OTA antenna and use the distribute out. I think I'd have run two additional wires (total 3 wires from the distribution panel in the basement. I think I could buy two diplexer's and combine the output and antenna on the same wire (If I'm lucky.)

What's the best and easiest way to get this all to work? Is it technically possible to have 4 signals going across a single cable? I ran across a patent on this Title: Four port dual polarization frequency diplexer
Document: United States Patent 4912436 but its unclear a little which product's I'd actually need.

Or is the only way for me to do this is to run 1 wire to the antenna, and 1 wire back to the distribution panel?

I'm not sure I entirely understand the distribution part of what you want to do, but I can say this:

If your in-house cable distribution feeds from a central location, and you have a single RG6 cable coming from your Dish and going to where the ViP 622 is going to be, then: one cable (combining 110/119/129) comes from one of the ports on the Dish 1000 to a DPP Separator (provided in the box your 622 comes in) and that splits across your 622's 2 sat inputs. No DPP44 switch needed.

To add OTA into the mix: over that SAME RG6 cable, diplex the OTA antenna and the single cable from the D1000, then inside come into another diplexer. The antenna side goes into the OTA-in on the 622 and the sat side goes into a DPP Separator, then those two cables plug into the two sat inputs.

You could then run a cable from the RF modulator on the 622 out to your cable distro system, but I don't know that OTA signals will come over that...(i.e., I don't know that the 622 will display an OTA channel on the output cable, it's possible it does though).

Check this site out for lots of wiring diagrams that might suit your situation: http://rweb.echostar.com/departmental_content/TechPortal/index.shtml (select ViP 622 DVR from the list and then "Install" from the menu on the left, then "Images and Wiring Setups"; look at the "Diplexers, Off-Air" items).

First of all you do not need a 44 switch. The dish 1000 will accomidate a 622 with one cable. As for the antenna, and the tv2 . You should run one more rg6 to the basement for the tv2 output for your splitter. The antenna can be combined with a diplexer at the antenna and the receicer before the dish pro plus seperator. The seperator makes one rg6 into two for the dual tuner imput.
So in a nutshell combine your sat feed and antenna with a diplexer at both ends. dish antenna, and off air antenna. on receiver end before the seperator.
Wish I could draw you a diagram.

Thanks,

so it looks like just 1 more wire will do it.
