How to get a dish in an SUV

OK I'm interested in putting a dish system in my SUV how would I go about this? Which service provides something like this?

Keeping the dish on the sats would be impossible... Actually, there are systems that can keep the antenna aimed while on the move, but they're not cheap ($4,000 or so the last I looked). They are essentially large bubbles to protect the antenna from wind. The antenna is constantly re-aimed as the vehicle moves. Such devices can be seen on the most expensive motor coaches, sightseeing buses and yachts.

The practicality would be limited in a small vehicle that pitches and tosses a lot, though. Also, the signal would be lost each time you go under a bridge or tree. It would work well when the vehicle is parked in an open area, of course. The self-aiming feature would probably take care of the slight movement that results from people entering/exiting and shifting positions in the SUV.

I have a Dish on a Tripod I use when I want to watch TV in my truck. (I have a 7 inch LCD TV which pops down from the roof of my truck, as well as a Playstation 2, and Nintendo 64 in there as well)

I have seen them on motorhomes. They use GPS to track the satellites. It would be a little large for an SUV, I drive an Excursion and I can't imaging putting one on top there. I think I will stick to DVD's, I don't even bother with OTA

But dont they have smaller ones? Less expensive ones? I read somewhere that they have somehting like that.

There are several mfrs that make relatively small tracking DBS antennas for moblile apps, both land and water based. A little time spent on the net doing a search should yield you some results.

I have also read somewhere that there is a device for like 1,000-2,000 and have seen it in some catalogs as well where it tracks the satellite for you while you are driving down the road.

There a newer technologies that allow
mfrs to build tracking systems with
relatively small footprints. Something like
that should be suitable for SUV apps.
Don't look for cheap, tho.

have nailed to the bed of my new
