OK so I subscribe to the Atlanta locals ala carte. I also subscribe to the Chicago locals ala carte and I subscribe to LA and NY packages. I signed up last year when their web site let me get more than 2 distant cities. So I notice the new channels for XWSB & XWAGA telling me the Atlanta locals will no longer be available and will be replaced by another city. Am I going to lose Chicago or will they add Dallas or Denver. Should I call them or just wait to see what happens on 5/31/06. I do not want to call and do anything to jeopardize LA or NY. I live in a true white area and was able to keep my distants when LiL meant I was served. Any advice or comments about the situation would be greatly appreciated.

You should not be getting each network from more than two distant cities. What you are describing is an error - and a violation of the federal law that allows viewing distant channels. The limit is two cities.

I too get two Atlanta channels as distants - Atlanta will no longer be available on a national beam so we are losing them. They are supposed to be replaced with a city in the same time zone as mine will be replaced with NY distants. In theory they could use Chicago stations because the primetime shows are actually shown at the same time as EST shows are.
I did call and they have nothing in the computer that allows them to make a change without a waiver - but on May 31st we are supposed to get replacement channels as I have been told. I believe this may have been discussed in a retailer chat.

Are you presently getting all the stations from the four cities or are Chicago and Atlanta split. If you are getting all stations from four cities that is indeed a violation.

Also Dallas is no longer available as a distant choice.

As the OP seems to be in violation, there is nothing he could possibly ask for in a phone call, except to turn them off.

I suppose the "best bet" is to let E* quietly do what they are going to do when Atlanta leaves ConUS. Perhaps they will just turn off Atlanta and leave the other cities intact. Perhaps they will notice that he has too many other cities and he'll go back down to the two he can have (under grandfathered rules).

I agree that waking the beast (calling in) would likely lead to the "worst" outcome - cutting back to the two distants he can have if grandfathered or less if E* requalifies him. (E* is not required to offer distants even if the customer qualifies or is grandfathered.)

Call up and simply cancel your Atlanta cities and leave it at that. If they try and hit you with a downgrade charge, tell them that you are merely doing what hey will be doing in a few weeks anyway, and a supervisor will quickly give them authorization to override the charge.

Computer glitches happen all the time with their address checker which may let some folks subscribe to more distants than they should.
