I have Dish Network service with 2 receivers. I want to take one receiver in my RV. I have an old DirectTv dish. Will my DISH receiver work with my old DirectTv dish?

you will first need to get an RV waiver from Dish

Edit: Slamminc11 hit it better a couple of posts down than I did here. Read that post, not this one. :)

* You don't need an RV waiver to take a subscribed receiver with you. You do need it to qualify for distant network signals, assuming you don't qualify otherwise.

* You'll be fine unless the Dish audit team decides to call while one receiver is on the road in the RV and someone is home with the other. If no one watches the home receiver while you're gone, then I guess no one will answer the phone either. :)

To answer the other part of your question...

You may be able to use an old DirecTV dish, but you will need new LNBs. Dish uses a different scheme than DirecTV... so you cannot just re-purpose the whole thing from one company to another.

Nice try!:nono2: but Per Dish Network:

RV and Vacation Home Policy
· Customers will be allowed a specified number of tuners based on size of Recreational Vehicle (RV) or Boat, located in one RV or one Boat on an account (Commercial trucks are only allowed 1 tuner regardless of size)

· RVs: 3 tuners for Class A- Fifth Wheel Vehicles, 2 tuners for Class C-Travel Trailers and 1 tuner for Class B-Camping Conversion and Folding Camping Trailers (Tent Trailers)

· Boats: 3 tuners for Class 2-26 feet to less than 40 feet, 2 tuners for Class 3-40 feet or longer

Procedure

> Customer calls DISH Network/Receiver Audit Team (1-888-371-9077) and advises they have a Recreational Vehicle, Commercial Truck or Boat

> Customer Identifies the Receiver(s) to be located in the Recreational Vehicle, Commercial Truck or Boat

> Customer is sent ( by fax or e-mail) a Proof of Ownership form which must be filled out and sent back with a current copy of the vehicles registration within 7 days or receivers will be disconnected

> DISH Network activates Receiver(s) on account and tags account as having a Recreational Vehicle Commercial Truck, or Boat

> If the Customer wishes to receive Distant Locals in the Recreational Vehicle or Commercial Truck they must request and fill out the RV Declaration form

> Boats are not permitted to receive Distant Local Channels.

·Second location/vacation homes policy

> Customers who have a Vacation Home or Second Fixed Location can set up an account to receive DISH Network services

> Customers will NOT be allowed to share receivers between their primary residence and any other fixed location on a single account

> The customer will be required to create a separate account for the Second Fixed location/Vacation Home. This account will be allowed unlimited seasonal downgrades or service on this account

People, the question was: Will my DISH receiver work with my old DirectTv dish?

The rest: "I want to take one receiver in my RV I have an old DirectTv dish." is not really relevant to the question. He was not asking anything about networks or waivers or anything else!

The answer is yes. A standard single satellite DirecTV Dish and standard LNB used to pick up 101° on DirecTv will work wotk a Dish Network receiver.

See. That was simple!

See ya

The D* LNB is different than what E* currently supplies (DishPro). Fortunately it's equivalent to the early E* LNB, aka legacy, and all E* receivers can be connected to legacy LNBs.

The part that's incompatible is the switch, so you wouldn't be able to use a D* multi-sat dish.

You should do a switch check when connecting to a different LNB/switch configuration.

This isn't applicable to this discussion, but what genius thought that it would be okay to have 3 tuners on a small (okay, maybe not so small) boat, but only 2 on a really big boat? By this logic, I should be able to have 5 or 6 in my canoe, but the USS Ronald Reagan would be lucky to be able to have one, if any.

I spoke with DISH and it is exactly as stated above, they are fine with taking one receiver with my RV they just wanted the number of it. They also told me that the other dish would work, but that since I have SuperDISH, I probably wouldn't get the local channels. Will have to wait and see on the locals. Anyway, thanks for all the help folks.

Of course, no one mentioned the possible Extended EPG problem, if the DIRECTV dish is only for one satellite. Depends on whether the receiver is a DVR or not.

It's academic now. Dish Network has been ordered to cease all distant network signal service.

Well, the ruling has no affect on the OP's situation as he is only wanting to take his system on his RV and not asking about Distant Networks.

In the article, there is no specific mention, other than the headline, that the order has been given. Other story says the case has been sent back to the lower court for them to give the order.
