I currently have a Dish 500, dual LNB system. One standard receiver in the bedroom, and just bought a used 921 for the living room. I have one cable outlet in the bedroom and only one in the living room. I’m trying to avoid, any other cable runs to the living room …for the dual tuner 921.
I activated the 921, and found out the hard way that a satellite splitter won’t work for the dual tuner. After, researching the dual tuner issue; it appears if I get a (SW21 Satellite Multi-Dish switch) that will fix my single cable problem for the 921, but leaves my bedroom receiver out of luck? Is there any other hardware or devices I can purchase to be able to have both satellite receivers up and running? I’m not concerned about the High Definition aspect of the 921 just the ability to record two programs at one time.
Sorry for the long post, and Thanks in advance.

The SW21 won't fix your single cable problem. The only way to get both tuners working on the 921 is to use "DishProPlus" technology, either put a DPPTwin LNB on your dish or get a DPP44 switch to go between your dish and receivers.

Thank You, I will go with the DPP44 switch. Will I need the SW21, to cut it down to one cable, are does the DPP44 do that for you?

If you get a dpp twin, you won't need the dpp44 switch unless you are trying to look at four sat locations. The sw21 switch will not work with dpp at all, you will however need a dpp seperator to feed both inputs on the 921.

I bought a used Dish Pro Twin used, on eBay for $29.

All I had to do was remove two bolts/screws on the current LNB; with my fingers, unscrew the coaxial fitting into the old LNB. Connect the coaxial connector into the new LNB, plug it into the arm, and screw the two screws back into place.

If you only plan on having the 2 receivers, do what others have said and get the DPP Twin LNB and get one of the DPP separators for the 921. That's all you'll need. I recently went this route and have one cable going to my 942 and another going to my 625 - both using the DPP separator behind the receiver. Works like a champ.

BTW: Seperators are often included with DPP44s. Check with whomever you buy it from to see if you can get one free or cheap.
