Anyone got any recommendations for a good yet low-priced color laser printer? The prices have gotten pretty cheap, but I'm hearing some mixed reviews. Oh yeah, specs.... Will be printing from Windows XP and Linux On a home TCP/IP network, so must have network port PCL and Postscript Level 3 Single pass printingI kinda skipped over the color inkjet printers because of the cost of the consumables. :) One of the printers that I'm eyeing is the Dell 3100cn.

I have several printers here-
Color laser Minolta 2300- Good for basic printing for a real natural look to all documents. Especially nice for printing web pages. Don't expect to get photo real prints. Color Document quality only. Network ready
Prints a stack of #10 envelopes without jams. Nice! Does a fair job on cheap paper too.
I have an Officejet Pro inkjet for color photocopier. Photo real is so-so.
For serious photo realism using good glossy paper, I use an Epson R320. Looks like Kodak Paper prints.
For DVD and CD printing I use a commercial printer MicroboardsII. I don't know of any color laser that prints disks. If you need to print DVD's get an Inkjet like the Epson R320. It will do one at a time.
Bottom line, laser color is great for color documents with pictures that resemble magazine quality. Don't expect photographic quality.
With the cost of printers being as low as they are, and the cost of the consumables being what they are, I use two printers. I have an HP 1022 Laserjet which is used for most of our printing. Much more economical than Inkjet for B/W printing. For photo printing I have a Canon s820 Photo printer. You probably can't find that model today, since I bought it over a year ago. I have the same setup in my office, with a Canon laser for B/W and an HP inkjet for color printing.
I bought one of those Dells a few months ago and I LOVE it.. I can't speak to how it works for Linux but my WIndows printing couldn't be easier. My network has 2 hubs, 3 media center PCs, 2 laptops, one homebuilt PC and a network drive with a USB drive hanging off THAT. The printer basically means I have a data center in my house....

From Bona Fide Reviews:
Samsung CLP-650N Network Color Laser Printer ReviewHere at BFR we've had the chance to review two of Samsung's color laser printers, namely their CLP-510N and CLP-550. At the time of reviewing those printers, which was over a year ago, they were darn good machines in terms of print quality and speed. However, the 5 color pages per minute (ppm) speed the CLP-550 has is no longer as impressive as it once was. As with everything in the computer, printers have become faster and more efficient which is why today we have Samsung's newest in their CLP (Color Laser Printer) lineup that boasts a speedy 20 ppm color speed. This is a 400% increase in color print speed over the course of 1-2 years.
The CLP-650N is Samsung's flagship color laser printer and features many improvements over the CLP-550 model. Aside from the increase in print speed, the 650N also contains more memory (256MB vs 64MB) and is 14lbs lighter (64lbs vs 77lbs) than the CLP-550. Looks tempting, but I doubt a legal class or a programming class will need color output. A HP Color Laserjet 2600n for $300 looks tempting, but lacks Linux support. :(
