Hi, I'm a new Dishnetwork retailer and have been asked to bid a job for a set of condos. The board of directors decided to dump the cable co. and go all sat. There are 7 bldgs. 8 or 9 units to a building. I've been scouring this site to read info on this type of install but no luck. Any input will be appreciated as far as experience using the existing drops, # of amplifiers required, pitfalls to watch for, etc... To get a signal here that won't fade out we are required to use the 1.8 meter dish or the 1.2. The 1.8 holds better in the rain tho. Is there a limit to the # of drops that can come off each dish or should I plan on a dish for each building?

You need to contact Dish and ask them about the MDU program / setup.

Beware of using existing wiring if it's more than 7 years old (RG-59 vs. RG-6). You can be lucky and get RG-59 that lasts, but over time, the cable will fry from the strength of the sat. signal.

No, it won't, however, if you are doing a series of condo buildings you should contact Dish about their new, about to be released, DishPro LNBs and switches. This new hardware will require RG-6 to work, so you will have to replace any RG-59 wiring, but if the cable goes in smoothly the system should be an easy install.

Good luck on the project.

Thanks to all and keep the info coming. I'm soaking it up like a sponge.

Get on the retailer website & hit the link for "commercial accounts."

You will have to get set up as a commercial retailer to do MDUs, head-end systems, etc.
