I was recording a six hour race on Speed and I started to watch it while it was recording. After about an hour I had to leave but I could not find any way to stop watching while continuing to record. This is a no-brainer on Tivo. There must be some way to do it on the R15. Every attempt to stop resulted in a choice of cointinuing or stopping the recording.

I think if you just hit the power button, the next time you go to view it, it will resume where you left off. Or, punch in another channel number and hit select.

from what i understand of your post you can pause it and press the green button to set a bookmark then you can go back to the part where you left.

if you were recording more than one show then you can only choose either the race your recording or the other show that was being recorded but if your not recording 2 shows then all you would need to do is change the channel and your fine.

but thats usualy how i solve that issue. from what i understand that message only appears when 2 shows are being recorded.

hopefully that helped.

Or you could hit the channel up button. It should go back to the live version. Then it will go back to where you left off when you come back and start playing it again.

All of these suggestions should work. It's just which is most comfortable to you.

You can't use the bookmarking option while a show is being recorded. Just another special feature of the R-15.

You can if you start watching from my vod as it is recording. However, it won't let you set a bookmark if you pause live tv and try to set it.

I haven't been able to. Is there a trick to it?

I've done as "TigersFan" said. There's no trick to it, but let me make a bit of a longer story out of it to also try to respond to the original post in this thread.

Let's say you're watching TV late in the evening. You're chugging through the channels, and you stop to check out some show. You watch it for a few minutes, and want to continue, but you don't feel like staying up to see the end. Press the "R" button to start recording it. Then, go to MyVOD (the "List" button). That show will be at the top of the list. Press the "Play" button, and you'll now be at the beginning of where the buffer was when you stared watching (naturually, not where you want to be, though, if you had been watching for a while before you pressed the "R" button). Press and hold the "Advance" button (one to the right of the "Stop" button (||). That will take you to the end of the buffer*. Press pause, and then the green button. You will set a bookmark that you can come back to by pressing and holding the FF button.

(That was just to illustrate that you CAN place a bookmark into something that is still in the process of being recorded. However, you don't really have to set a bookmark provided you were watching the show from MyVOD. Basically, just do what I said in the previous paragraph up to the point "...That will take you to the end of the buffer...". When you come back to the show you will come back to the point where you left it. (It does not seem to work, though, if you do that if you watching the show from "live TV", you must have been watching it from MyVOD.)

*a bit of warning regarding the "Advance" button. It is flakey in the current version of the software. Seems the longer it has been since you last did a reset, the more likely it is for it to be flakey. For the past few days I had not been able to use the "go to near the end" of a recording (by pressing and holding the "Advance" button). I was wanting to go to near the end, and back up a bit, but I coulnd not, because when I pressed and held the "Advance" button it would not only go to "near the end", but tack on an extra 30 second slip, and I would always end up at the very end with the "Don't delete/Yes, delete" message, Ugh :( A reset fixed that malady. Another time it was even flakier than that, but again, a reset fixed that, too. "RESETS are our friends."
