I just purchased a new TV with a built-in SDTV tuner, so I've been able to flick back and forth between my Dish and ABC's coverage of the World Cup. Frankly, the OTA reception, even if only in 480i, was so much better than with the Dish receiver, also 480i. I only have a coax going through a VCR on that TV, so I went downstairs and checked the TV that has an S-cable between the Dish tuner and the TV, and the reception there was also relatively poor.
Will upgrading the connections help enough to overcome what is a marked difference?
BTW, a red-colored big box store took over 20% off the 27" Sony SDTV rather than the $20 reduction listed in the circular.

You are looking at a down rezed HDTV signal against a compressed SD signal, no way could DISH match it.:)

I'll move there when most of my viewing (Comedy Central and BBC America) is in HDTV and it doesn't cost me another $300 for an HDTV PVR to replace my current one.
And yes, it is a Sony with the ATSC tuner.

This is not entirely true. On our "small" screen 37" HD Plasma my wife nor I can discern any differecne in picture quality when comparing HD OTA to local HD from the Sat. Heck, looking at our 13" ancient TV in the kitchen VHS tape looks as good as HD. :hurah:
I suspect with a larger screen the difference may well be discernable.
