From Trial software trying PC users' patience:

Trial software trying PC users' patienceThat new PC that's running slower than the old one it replaced might be weighed down with several applications destined to gather dust on the desktop.

PCs are becoming increasingly cluttered with preinstalled software--in some cases the traditional trial offers for Internet service providers like AOL and EarthLink, but also newer applications like spyware-blocking tools which, somewhat ironically, inundate users with pop-up windows advertising their services.

Complaints about the "crapware," as Geek Squad founder Robert Stephens put it, are prominent in discussion forums and blogs related to PCs. But last week's deal between Dell and Google to install Google software on new Dell PCs shows that more and more of the real estate on the PC is for sale to application vendors, as PC vendors continue to look for new sources of revenue to boost their margins.FULL ARTICLE HERE (http://news.zdnet.com/2100-3513_22-6078219.html?tag=zdfd.newsfeed)

Another good reason why......

Build your own... :(

The worst part, is that you can even take the CD's and rebuild a clean install.
You are stuck putting that damm original image back on the unit, with all the garbage you whee tryint to get rid of in the first place.

Yeah! I hate that. I was trying to install the backup program for XP. I couldn't because you need non-existing CD to do it.

Searching the Dell site about installing the backup program, it refers you TO THE WINDOWS XP CD!!!! :icon_dumm You didn't send me one!!

Microsoft will send you a CD if you prove that you own the software. You have to send them the serial number in the sticker on your PCs and proof of purchase. Oh and pay $30!!! What a joke.

The best thing to do when you buy a new computer is to format the hard drive and do a complete reinstall. I find the that the computer sellers are lazy and usually only put one partition on a harddrive. I always have at least two, one for the operatings system and one for data. You can find complete releases of OP's on ebay for reasonable prices. I never use the restore CD from the oem. Just my preference.
