Total Choice Family Package: (http://directv.com/DTVAPP/learn/Packages_Family_Package.jsp)
Price Drop to $29.99 on 6/28/2006

No other information, other then the change in price
aka: I don't know if it is automatic for those who already have it, for new subscribers only, or if it is for a limited time only.

EDIT: 6/14/2006 - 14:45 CST
Got an update on why the price is changing:

CNN is leaving the package...
CNN Headline News is going into the package...

Reliability Factor:
Over the last month or so, I have been getting information from a lot of people. Going forward, I am going to employ a reliability factor on this information. It is not that I don't trust most people, it is just when you get information from someone that just logged into the system for the first time.....

1 - Almost a pure rumor, but has at least a little bit of basis
2 - Reported multipled places, but hasn't been confirmed
3 - Probably will happen, person giving the information has been more correct then wrong
4 - No reason not to believe it isn't true; Person has definently been vastly more correct then incorrect
5 - Almost as good as it being posted at DirecTV.com

Rule of thumb: If it isn't on DirecTV.Com or another official news outlet posting, it is always a rumor.

Now if they just drop the price of Total Choice Plus I'll be happy. Anything to save some $.

"Price Drop to $29.99 on 6/28/2006"

This date is seeming to be very interesting Directv-wise lately. I recently emailed Directv asking when we'd get in HD Locals in Raleigh, NC and was told June 28. I then asked when we'd get the new HD DVR and was told there would be more details June 28. I also seem to remember other posts on here that related to other areas getting their HD Locals on June 28.

I'm thinking Directv may pick one date to launch tons of new HD Channels, products, and of course, promotions. This way they save on advertising and finally provide the overwhelming HD revolution they've been promising. June 28 sounds good. And its a Wednesday, which Directv seems to love lately for launching new stuff.

Just speculating.

EDIT: Also Titanium Package and Big Button Remote

Will DirecTV drop the prices of the Total Choice and Total Choice Plus packages? Their not that bad now I guess but dropping the price more would be cool. Thanks for any info on this.

I haven't heard anything about a drop in any of the other packages.

is this to comete with E* or just just change the price?

Compete with E*

I think it is more of an adjustment based on the change of the "CNN" flavor in the package.

I was unaware of Total Choice Family. They mention nothing about it on their web site. How many channels are on this package?

That's obviously because the cheapest package they want anyone to get it Total Choice.

http://directv.com/DTVAPP/learn/Packages_Family_Package.jsp

Family has 40 channels and cost $34.99 per month (so far).

I thought TCFamily already had Headline News. Could it be the other way, that they're removing HN and replacing it with CNN Prime? Considering that just as TCFamily appeared CNN put that dreadful Glenn Beck on Headline News, I could see why D* would want to switch the news channel in the "family-friendly" package!

You're right, it probably is the other way around.

Alright...

No debating the quality of the channels... (at least not hear)

Edited: I deleted a couple of the posts, as they didn't add to the "value" of this particular thread.

$19.99 with Dish does not include locals, so if you add locals it is only $5 more. I'll take CNN Headline News over Fox News Channel any day.

hmm you get both with e* but not d* http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/packages/family/index.asp?viewby=1&packid=32036&sortby=1 also with D* they only deduct ***3 dollars*** if locals are not availble in your area..so there is a seven dollar difference between packages

They need a package between Total Choice and Family at the price of Family. Family is still too high for it's content. Look at Directv's Para Todos packages Seleccion Extra is $29.99 and includes 25 English channels Seleccion Mas is $39.99 $10 more but includes 100 English channels(50 are XM radio). Look what $10 buys you for additional programming something dosen't add up.
A&E/Animal Planet/Bravo/CNN/CNNHN/Discovery/Disney/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNEWS/Food/FoxNews/HistoryCh/MSNBC/MTV/Nick@Night/TBS/TLC/TVguide/TVLand/USA/VH1/Weather Ch/XM That is a lot for $10 and they want $30 for the Total Choice Family?
