 On Friday the 16th of June, I ordered a Directv DVR R15 from DirecTV. I have 2 Directv DVR's (Tivo) I wanted to try the R15 to see how this unit worked for me. Well Saturday the 17th arrived so did the DVR but instead of The R15 I got another R10(Tivo) I called DirecTV to notify the of the Mis Shipped receiver. They told me that I would get "WHATEVER WAS IN STOCK" I said no, you ship me what I ordered! So after going back and fourth for 20 minutes I canceled the order, received a credit on my account for the receiver plus the shipping charge. So heres DirecTv at another lie for them. I love my Tivo's i'll stick with them. This is definitely an omen I experienced today!

As designed the R15 does a cood job it is not a Tivo and it is not easy to switch from one to the other. You wanted to try the R15 and rightfully you should be disappointed because you didn't get what you ordered, but I compliment Directv with trying to provide the product that would keep you happy.:)

Species... I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you were hoping.
With respect, I think lying might be a little harsh. It appears to fall along the lines of uninformed CSR's, left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, disorganized, orders being placed from one location and shipped from another, etc.
All of which, unfortunetly, seems to happen quite a bit.
Maybe you can call back and try again. I've read where several peeps have been able to specify which model they would like.

I thought DirecTV has always stood by you get whats in stock when they ship?

My guess would be that a CSR enters something to request a replacement or a new order. For example, a SD DVR. Order fulfillment then grabs whatever next is in line to go out the door. I don't believe that's a lie, just their process. Be that good or bad.
However from your original post, if you received an R10 when placing an order for a new DVR that's a shock as I wasn't aware DTV had any new R10's If DTV is shipping used/refurbed R10s out for new orders, that's a different story and problem.
Was this order placed through DTV directly or possibly a reseller?

Well i specifically asked for the R15. When I talked to the CSR's at Directv about the mis shipped dvr they stated over and over again. That if that model is not in stock they send a different model a.ka. the r10. So after negotiating with them on the 6th try. I was able to keep the r10 and they reversed ALL charges for the order. So i guess it worked to my advantage. I also told the CSR that they should make disclaimers as to what equipment a subscriber my get especially when it is in regard to advanced products like the dvr.

I really don't know where to post this. Lies are all we have gotten from Directv. R15, we have now had 4 of them in 2 months. First worked for a little over a month and that was the good part. We were just told yesterday that they have a programming glitch so why bother sending reconditioned units out if they know it is not the unit that has the problem. I am sick over this. So sorry I switched from Dish.

Welcome Elise744. :welcome_s
This has been a tough time. Exactly what problems were you running into?
I'm not known as a "defender" of the R15, but with the new software being released (10C8) if it running much better. You may want to give it another shot. Or, call them back and tell them you want an R10 (Tivo model). From other posts here it seems DTV is sending out R10s when requested.....sometimes.
I am suprised that a CSR told you that.

The written policy is you get what's in stock when they ship that is functionally equivalent.
Software bugs aside, the R10 and R15 are not functionally equivalent (different size hard drives and different buffers). R15-300 and R15-500 are functionally equivalent.

Why are you sorry? D & E are just companies. They're not clubs where you pledge money.

Then why are they shipping out R10 as R15 replacements?
Why are you sorry? D & E are just companies. They're not clubs where you pledge money. When you sign up with DirecTV, you pledge to subscribe to a minimum service level for two years. A club or fraternal organization might consider giving you your money back if it didn't work out.
DirecTV and Dish Network have both dropped their 30 day money back guarantees.

Kind of silly to respond this way. I did pledge money, for 2 years it is pledged to get sevice that I am not getting. To spend hours on the phone, sit around for deliveries and pickups and repair people and they all lie.
They won't give me an older model that does work. Would buy a car without an engine?
I had Dish for years and never had this problem. I fell for the commercials and am now sorry I did.

Actually I don't think they care about drive sizes and such. I remember reading many threads at TCF about people being upset they had a D*Tivo with a bigger drive and D* sent them something different when it had to be replaced. I think they just mean a DVR for a DVR, thats just my guess based on their past history though.

DTV (at least in their protection plan) has written "functionally equivalent", but without prodding, they will just assume that functionally equivalent means standard receiver for standard receiver, or DVR for DVR. But if you push them, and identify a specific feature they advertised which led to selection of a particular receiver, they will provide a true functional equivalent.
For the R15, some of the advertised features are "record up to 100 hours", "interactive capability", "bookmarks" and "on-screen caller id".
