Black Screen

I am out of town and my wife just called and says she has a black screen. I have a 301 reciever. she gets the guide and heading at top of page when selecting a channel only with a black screen and no sound. Just happened. Any ideas? She is really putting pressure on me to find out what the problem is and fix. HELP!

I have two 301's but haven't experienced that before and they are working OK now. Try this:
1) power off unit
2) unplug unit
3) take out smart card
4) hit 301 with hammer
5) repeat 4 until stress disappears
6) tell her you'll just have to get a 721 to correct

I like the 721 idea. Right now is not the time to present that solution!

Pull the smartcard for 30 seconds or so, then reinsert it. That should solve the black screen problem - I get it on my 4900 occasionally, and that's what solves it for me.

It worked. Unplugged for 60 seconds, pull out smart card and all is well. Thanks. In a couple of days I will suggest that the 721 would solve all these problems. Hope she ok's it. Thanks for the help and wish me luck.
