View Full Version : What Multiswitch?

We originally had a 1LNB dish mounted on our deck railing feeding signal through a multiswitch to 3 D10's, and 2 R15's (only one R15 had 2 lines running to it). Well, my husband had to get HD tv. Directv came out a month ago and installed the AT9 dish on the pole in the yard along with a new 6X8 multiswitch. (They took the old multiswitch but left the 1LNB dish still mounted.)

Well, the AT9 dish barely has the line of sight that it needs and anytime it rains we lose signal for extended periods of time. Needless to say I'm getting rather tired of it. I told my husband tonight that I want the one R15 switched back to the old 1LNB dish. I'm assuming I need a multiswitch, but what type/size should I be looking to buy? (BTW, this R15 does have 2 feeds going into it.)

Thanks!!

I'd be on the horn with DirecTV demanding that they redo the antenna in such a manner that it gives you an acceptable signal all the time.

The old dish should have two connectors on it (it would have to in order to feed a multiswitch).

You can run a coax cable from each of those connectors to the two inputs on the R15, and it should work just fine off the old dish.

And, I agree with harsh, get the installer back out to fix the AT9 also.

Unfortunately the problem with the AT9 dish can't be fixed by the installer. We've had them out at least 3 times to tweak it. We did a better job adjusting it than they did. The location of the 1 LNB has a much better line of site for 101, but the other satellites were totally blocked by trees and our neighbors house. The 1 spot in our yard where you can get all the satellites is where they put the AT9 dish, unfortunately if it rains or the winds are strong enough, there are tree branches that blow in the path of the signal. The installers warned him of this when they installed the dish but he insisted on having it installed anyways. They were real iffy on how well 99 would do. Unfortunately we won't know that answer for another 2 days when our HD locals launch.

Right now the signal isn't bothering my husband, but he's also on the Xbox more than he's watching tv. We'll see what happens come football season though when it goes out during the middle of one of his Raider games. LOL. It bothers me more now because when the signal is out for more than a minute, it locks up my otherwise pretty stable R15.

Thanks for the info on the cabling. We've still got the cabling in place coming from the 1LNB to where it used to connect into the multiswitch. If I don't need the multiswitch then I'll just go find/buy two of the connectors to connect that wiring into the wiring going into the house for the R15 I want to switch overs. Once again, thanks very much for the info!!
