Seeing is believing.
Starting July 16, and continuing throughout the 2006 season and beyond D* will offer an interactive application during YES Network telecasts of live New York Yankees baseball games. Additionally for home Yankees games, D* will offer a second BonusCam video feed, available side by side with the YES Network signal. This interactive feature is exclusive to D*
The interactive channel will have the following features available from a Menu accessed by RED button press:
• Starters/Due Up - Starters displays batting order number, name and position for each player, and for either the Yankees or the opposing team. Due Up lists three players at a time, for the team currently up to bat.
• In-Game Box Score - includes current box score information for both teams, with separate displays for each team’s hitters and pitchers.
• Player Stats (3 tabs)
o Profile Tab – display essential player stats, and last 4 season stat lines.
o Career Tab – display 8 season start lines and is scrollable for additional years.
o YES Scoop Tab – display up to 4 bullet points of information from Yankee Player Profiles (available for Yankees only).
Full Roster– also available is a full roster for each team, sorted by position, and selectable to show Player stats.
• Yankees Schedule – present a month-by-month look at the entire season with results from preceding games, times for upcoming ones, and the games to be telecast on YES clearly indicated.
• MLB Standings – offers the current standings in each division and in the league Wild Card races. American and National Leagues will be on separate pages.
• MLB (Statistical) Leaders – selectable list of the 10 leaders of each league in five offensive and four pitching categories.
MLB Scoreboard – At a YELLOW button press, viewers can access first pitch times, in-progress score and situation tracker, and final scores for all the day’s MLB
action. They can use the arrow buttons to scroll through multiple score pages to see all the league results.
BonusCam Feature During Yankees home games only, a BLUE button press brings up a side-by-side view of the YES network signal and an additional video feed. This additional video feed will be an isolation camera of a Yankee star in the field or at bat, or a situational view of game action.
Equipment •will need an interactive set-top box to receive the service. :)

Well, if they are in MPEG4 (like it is being speculated) - they would NOT show up in your program guide UNLESS you are IN the HD local market that is ALREADY lit up and you get the RSN as your REGULAR RSN. For me, that means I could NOT even see if any were added except YES (that is my regular RSN and I have AT9, H20 and CURRENTLY DO GET NY DMA in MPEG4.

NY DMA - I do NOT have channel 96 in my program guide (on either of my H20s - one is a 100 and one is a 600).
I do have lots of NYYankees listings though on channel 95 - starting with the Cleveland Games.
Also, the program guides DO NOT say MLB Extra Innings on THESE advanced program notices - like they ususally do.

I think you misunderstood, I know most of them are going to be part time, but nesn hd isn't anywhere on my h20 receiever (a game is on now) even though I should definitely qualify. I don't think it will be on channel 625, as that is SNY...for the mets. Surely you must. Could be an error on your account, I would double-check if I were you. When I signed up, they told me I'd get six RSNs (NESN, FSN New Engalnd, FSN New York, YES Network, Sportsnet New York, and MSG Network). I only got YES, NESN and SNY to start, in order to "correct" the error, they gave me Sports Pak for a month free, then turned it off, and the other three RSNs stayed up, so now I get all six. All of the SD RSNs are in the 600's. If you receive a SD RSN in the 600's as part of your 'regular' package, you should receive the HD coverage from that same channel.

You are probably correct. I likely do get the RSN's locally, but since I'm on premier I've never checked really.
Here's my question, when I ran the Signal Strength, I get a signal strength of 100 for 1 of the new SATs (I'm guessing the locals) and 55 for the other. Am I misaligned and thats part of the problem or would the RSN come through the same SAT as the locals.
Channel 96 is coming in, but without sound and with a horrbily scrambled picture. So the question is, is this a problem on my end or one of the MPEG-4 issues?
ScoBuck
07-01-06, 08:44 PM
Since I don't see channel 96 in my guide here in NY, it would be hard to tell what the problem is. The first thing I would do is re-boot the receiver, if that doesn't work it almost has to be the broadcast itself.
Since it is a 'new' channel, possibly you should call them up and let them know about the issue - they can tell you if they already know about it or not, and work on correcting it.
ScoBuck
07-01-06, 08:46 PM
What game are they showing (or I guess trying to show, lol).
ScoBuck
07-01-06, 09:09 PM
My gut feeling is that you ARE viewing a spotbeamed MPEG4 broadcast on channel 96, here is why.
Since the channel does NOT show up in my guide (or in Boston according to posters here), it must be spotbeamed - not CONUS. Conus would give me the listing, there would be a 'not available in your area' nag on-screen.
Since it is HD also, there is absolutely NOT ENOUGH bandwidth on MPEG2 on a locals spotbeam to transmit that to Earth.
You can check by re-setting your H20 to 3lnb sat and see if you get the listing Or the game on channel 96.

You know thats a good question. Could be a couple of reasons/answers.
First, when it comes to the MPEG4 HD channels on the spotbeam, different DMAs will see a different program guide (True also of MPEG2 spotbeam). But I don't think they could have enough bandwidth on the sats to spotbeam a MPEG2-HD offering.
Second, until one of those games actually comes on it will be impossible to tell if its MPEG2 or MPEG4. If you notice though in the program guide description, some games DO SAY MLB Extra Innings HD, some do not (this is true not only on the Yankees listings either)
Third, the channel could be used both as MPEG2 and MPEG4 (similar to what they do with 101 (CD USA).
Fourth, YES HD may stay MPEG2 for a while (until its a full-time channel) and be available nationwide (as it is now when its on and not locally blacked-out).
All of this is speculation, time will tell.
I still think that NESN is part of this stuff happening. I mean I heard it, Earl posted on it earlier, Brine got the same info, among a few others. It seems that everyone that got advance info on this - ALL of them say it includes NESN.
That being said - the launched may be slightly staggered over a couple of days or so - I have NO IDEA, but until we get the true picture on this (maybe some info from DirecTV next week, it will be tough to figure.
I would guess that we will get more and more daily posts about what games are on, what channels they are on, etc.
Hang in there - I still have faith in the info posted.

Expected late summer 2006:
1. • 24/7 RSNs: CSN Chicago, CSN Mid-Atlantic
2. • SNY
Expected in mid-October 2006:
1. MSG, FSNY, HDNet, Sun Sports, FSN Ohio
and this requires a H20 receiver and Ka-Ku dish

hmmmmmmmmm.........
I was referring to the stuff from the beginning of this thread - but that is a great question if the H20 will be able to access that now. D* said that they WILL be updating the software to enable interactivity but they did not say when. But with all of this new stuff happening who knows - could be shortly.
Maybe Earl will know - hey Earl what do you think?

Reason I asked is that Id hate for you to be disappointed on the 16th when you couldnt access it assuming you had H20s. Hell Id be disappointed too cause I think that YES interactive sounds kinda cool myself.

I guess we will see - but I do have SD IRDS also - so I can give it a shot if its SD only.
There maybe one FSN missing I thought Pittsburgh was broadcasting an HD signal as well. It will be interesting in the winter as according to D* Im in BOTH the Pittsburgh and Columbus NHL territories.
I think pittsburgh only shows HD to local cable companies.:(

Last night's Yankee game on YES-HD had some PQ issues - I think it was one of the cameras though - most of the game was really great PQ.
Off-topic: (sorry)
Besides that I did get some wonderful news (personal stuff) :)

Then maybe the people at D* thinks pittsburgh baseball is so bad that they don't want to waste the bandwith:lol:
YES interactive is now live. I tuned in to the Yankees game this afternoon and saw the blue status bar appear at the bottom of my screen. Pretty cool.
