D* is requesting the FCC for permission to move it's 7S satellite, a KU bird which
carries H/D programming from it's location @ 119.2 to 119.05. The company say's
the move is designed to improve signal reception to it's customers. The Sat.
currently carries ESPN-2, Discovery HD Theater, HDNet, and the N.Y. & L.A. feeds
of NBC,ABC, and FOX. and YES Network

Intresting...

That .15 difference... will that require a dish reallignment, or with the newer dishes will the angle just be improved that much?

Do you have a link for the source?

Don't know the answer to that one....here is the link..........

DirecTV said the proposed relocation would serve the public interest by improving signal reception for millions of DirecTV subscribers, so I presume
the "look" angle would be improved....I don't think D* wants to realign
everyone's dishes..

I read in the middle of that that there are millions of HD customers...

But also isn't some of the locals on 119 ?

Not that I know of....The stations I listed in my first post, are the only
ones.......

Note:AMC 16 & EchoStar 7 & DirecTV 7S are all at 119.0°W...
could be a interferance thing...

There are a lot of local channel markets on the 119. Both Oklahoma markets (Tulsa and Oklahoma City) are on the 119, for instance. Why else would they need 11 transponders (22-32) on the bird?

There are many locals on 7S/119. Look at the listing on D*'s website and see how many locals require a Phase III.

Earl you are 100% correct - besides HD Conus, there are Para Todos Conus, AND
many, many spotbeam locals at 119.

They can't be making a move that would require 15 million service calls in one day - that would tie them up completely for MONTHS.

That is what I figured...

So for that...

This thread is going to be on the Move.... ->General DirecTV

My Bad....I assumed they meant H/D only, so I pulled data for the 119
which returned the data I posted....sorry for the confusion..of course there
is lots of locals as well as others.

For the past 2 weeks my 119 reception has been poor. I wonder if this move request has anything to do with it.

Could be..AMC 16 & EchoStar 7 & DirecTV 7S are all at 119.0°W...
It seems to me that they could very well be interacting with one another....

Well, if they 'interacting' ( why not ? ), then why bringing 7S close to AMC-16 (118.75W) and E*7 (119.0W) will decrease the 'interaction' ?

They are not bringing it "closer" they are moving away from the others, so
as to prevent radio interference and debris from spent rocket parts that may
also be in the area. You can't just think of left/right here, you have to think
also of one being in front of/behind another one, thus blocking it's signals.

That's exactly what will happened - "from it's location @ 119.2 to 119.05" ie close to AMC-16 and E*7.
BTW, that debries lefted far behind after launch. You messed up with piloting space objects.

Ku sats generally have 6 degree beam width, a move of .15 degree is negligable. Also remeber one degree at that orbit is hundreds of miles wide.

I don't get this too. Miles apart, using ConUS or spotbeam antennas - what you attempt to make up here ? ;)

Just for fun :)

CORRECTED

Geo orbit, ie R: ~26.200 miles
One round at the orbit L: ~164120 miles (2p*R)
One degree diff: d: ~457 miles
.15 of this ~ 68.6 miles

.05 of 1 degree ~23 miles

Now tell me again about 'debries' or 'blocking signals' :D

Geo orbit, ie R: ~22.000 miles

The Dish Network "AMC 16 & EchoStar" is also in the 119 slot.
The FFC has to keep track of possible interference with other communications. The azimuth offset between the three LNBFs is fixed on the receive dish--pan one to the left or right, you pan them all. Declination can be adjusted to match the arc and therefore align that somewhat independantly, but not AZ/EL.
Geo orbit is 23,000 miles=60 miles movement.
Many people are reporting poor reception from this bird via D* service.
I don't have the answer as to why they are requesting to move it, unless
they have discovered after the fact that the multi sat dishes were actually designed for 119.05 originally.(just a thought not factual statement). A move
beyond what they requested, would degrade reception, not improve it as they
have stated the move would do. (they would have to realign everone's dish,
an expensive result)

"Geo orbit is 23,000 miles=60 miles movement" - what is that mean ? Other wrong numbers ?
You can't give straight answers, so the discussion come to the end.

The move is intended to place 7S closer to where the older multi-satellite dishes can get better gain. The gain on the ParaTodo/Phase2/Phase2-with-SATC is not particularly good (think of it as DirecTV's version of the DiSH 1000 mistake). The new DirecTV "Phase 3" is more forgiving and has a wider focus for both 110 and 119. Moving the 7S its new location is intended to help customers on ParaTodos/Phase2/Phase2-with-SATC get better gain by slightly reducing the spread. This will especially help those areas close to the fringe of spotbeams on 7S. Phase 3 dishes will just see a better signal overall. ParaTodos/Phase2/SatC Mod dishes will get much higher SQ and less rain fade.

No re-aiming will be necessary but it will make peaking for 119 much more easy--perhaps some customers with complaints after the move will be re-peaked.
There is some concern about neighboring Echostar but not at 119-degrees (it was specifically with 110).
All this talk about space debris, neighboring objects, etc. is nonsense.

Well at least this makes some sense of it all.....I have the oval with sat c kit
added and as you say, reception can be marginal at best..thanks for the
clarify......
