I have read all the threads here and am getting ready to pull the trigger on a sub. I need 2 room system. 1 HD and the other, normal set. I have read about the HD DVR offers and wondered what some would give as advise and the real need for a 5 lnb for mpeg 4.
any help would be great.

Basically...

If you want HD from DirecTV in the near-run... you will need the 5-LNB dish.
DirecTVs future (and current) HD path is conversion of all HD to MPEG4.

Also, if you order online from Directv, you will get a H20 (MPEG4) HD receiver free and the 5LNB Dish, plus you can get a Basic SD DVR all free. Just remember, Directv now lease it equipment out on a per/month fee basis.

I did not get mine free. How would one manage that?

My bag, they are no longer offering that at the moment because of the NFLST promo. deal! However, I still think they will give it to you if you ask for it!

you will need the 5-LNB dish.

Would this be the AT-9, or the new slimline dish?

Any idea when the slimline dish will be available?

Would that involve a long term comit?

probably
Most D* deals require a 2 year commitment.
